Meh what is 150k to roman?

Spare change, but club has to spend within limits of FFP. So having 35 year old backup player on a highest wage in the club seems weird.

That and Benitez has done decent job phasing Lampard and captain, leader, legend, full kit ****** out of the squad , and now new manager will be back to square one. Although if its Mourinho I'm sure he will contain them.

Well I did hear Lampard agreed to take a significant wage cut which I think is true otherwise I doubt the club would have offered him the new contract. They managed to hold out for so long after all. Still would have preferred him to leave. Suppose the one potential consolation is that if Mourinho comes in, he probably won't have a problem with them

Assuming it's the £150k wage that could have gone towards new recruits.

He won't be on 150k anymore. Reports suggest he has gone down to 80k a week and taking into count Lampard's two goals clinched Champions League football for us next season which will earn us at least 30million signing him on a free transfer on a reduced wage is a sensational deal.

Only a chelsea fan would think that giving a 34 year old who doesn't play every game 80k a week would be seen as a sensational deal.

I was wondering, will Chelsea fans make some tributes for true Chelsea legend like Rafa Benitez is?
On more serious note:

Brilliant player.

Well played Mou, disrupting the squad to try and get fired really paid off i guess.

On the side note, Belgium is going to be scary as **** at 2014 World Cup.

I wonder how much Giggs and Scholes were on this season? They don't play week in week out, should they not be signed up either? We are saving 70k a week and keeping a fantastic squad player and a fantastic man to have in the dressing room.

Dunno about Giggs, but Scholes was on 30k.

Think Giggs will only be on £50-£60k,

Chelsea's issue isn't really £70k+ spent on Lampard, it's the accumulative wages of the majority.

Indeed as long as he isn't still on 150k, and he is willing to buckle down/be benched if the manager isnt Jose, then it shouldn't be an issue.

Well, depends how you look at it. He did take half a wage cut. And he is club's 3rd goalscorer, with propably better per game averages then Torres, and thats with Luiz taking over free kick duty. All in all 80k seems reasonable.

I mean, its Lampard. Like him or not, guy never had a bad run of form in his life. I wouldn't be suprised if he plays into his 40.

Plus the other thing is, if Chelsea wants go grow as a global brand, it absolutely needs to keep its legends around as long as they can contribute to the team. Otherwise I think its easy, at least for abroad fans, to lose their sense of identity with the club.

At least, I've been following Milan for over 20 years, but I cant even force myself to watch them anymore after they offloaded all the legends last summers. Its like...not the same club. I'm pretty sure United might seriously tank in the stock if Rooney leaves and Giggs Rio are gone. Unless if they can get Ronaldo back. So yeah.

/random rant

Taking into count Scholes was never on 150k ever, I am guessing at his peak maybe 50-60? So in theory the drop is the same, that's all my point was really.

If its Jose coming back then he would eat rabbit **** for a month if Jose told him too so I am sure he will take a bit part role. I personally think Jose will use him as back-up but mainly use him as a coaching figure.

Can't remember Lampard scoring many free kicks. He scores a **** load of penalties, though.

Reckon he has scored around 8-10 free-kicks, not sure if your last bit about pens was a dig or not.

He's propably not a world class at it yeah, but he did score couple of good ones.
