Mata being left out today has left a LOT of questions, but the thing I'm most interested about is the Ramires/Lampard pivot. In this kind of match, surely Ramires-Mikel would have worked better? Or had the United left winger been someone like Kagawa, perhaps Mikel-MVG and Ramires on the right ahead of De Bruyne, who by all accounts had a relatively meh game.

Screw your stats, Torres holds the ball up better than Schurrle. I don't care what your stinking stats say. Torres still had more of an effect on the game for better/worse than Schurrle did.

Flawless victory!

The only question I have is his fitness. Mourinho's said he's not leaving to many times. Obviously it could be good old trying to hike up price, keeping it down and all that. The addition of Willian means Moses is likely out on loan, which leaves 6 players for 3 spots, playing 3 games a week, it doesn't seem that absurd.

Or I'm just in denial...

Ramires-Lampard pivot doesn't work, hasn't worked and will never work.

Against United, anyway. You could get away with it against, say, Hull or someone. Heck, MVG and Ramires would probably be alright against Hull.

Have you watched De Bruyne at Bremen? I believe he was used in several positions, one of them in a pivot? I might be wrong. If I'm right though, would De Bruyne-Mikel pivot work(even against weaker sides)?

Schurrle was always going to be a bigger threat than Torres. This "Vidic is weak against Torres" is well overhyped, usually by Liverpool fans. Vidic is "weak" ( if he indeed has any real weakness) against pacey and exceptionally mobile intelligent forwards, of which Torres was one of the best in the world at the time, ie he would trouble any defender. Torres is neither pacey nor exceptionally mobile, he was never getting any change from an excellent Vidic.

Theoretically, yes, it certainly could. De Bruyne didn't play regularly deep, but he's not bad positionally and he's versatile so why not give it a try? That said, MVG is a lot more comfortable as a deep player, so De Bruyne should probably only be used there in an emergency.

What's the deal with Lampard starting all the time, anyway. Its not 2005. As much as I agree that uncle Jose's special massages often have great effect on veteran players, 35 year old playing 3x90 minutes within a week is pushing it way too far.

I'm not complaining, Van Ginkel could have caused us a lot more problems

Horrific mental images.

Hilarious.

Although, Lampard is obviously fit enough to play every game, regardless of how old he is. If you're a Chelsea fan, I'm not sure why you're complaining.. He's one of the few players who consistently make an impact on your matches.

I find it vaguely arousing, myself.

I doubt there's a player on the planet who can play three matches in a week without a drop in performance, let alone a 35 year old box to box midfielder.

Besides, his impact nowadays is not necessarily in a good way. To his credit, his impact is remarkably good remarkably often, but that's tempered by the fact that his bad games are getting more regular, and they're a lot more noticeable now his job has become less centred around attacking.

Maybe Mourinho didn't think Van Ginkel was ready for such a big game yet. Hardly even got 45 minutes of EPL action under his belt and he isn't the most experienced of players

Shrek won't be pushing for move, according to sky "sources". Fair enough. Just go plan B already. We all knew that wouldn't happen. Waste of time. **** all those attention seeking girls.

Lamps played at OT because we started with De Bruyne, Shirley, Oscar all young and inexperienced in big games. Adding Van Ginks to the mix wouldn't have worked.
