How is it overreaction? Elaborate.
And **** pundits, no one gives a **** about their opinions.
3 pages of people saying he's a liability and not cut out to be a defender after one mistake. An overreaction, yes.

And to think, Barca were rumored to be interested in signing him for ?30mill...
A massive overreaction as expected. In for another year of pundits claiming he's a liability no matter how well he plays, and the worst thing is people will actually believe them.
Luiz is still a very good player, but after a spell of good form people have been massively overrating him, calling him one of the best CBs in the world et al. He's not, but he's not anywhere near as bad as everyone's saying now. He's still a really good player, just not world class. And that's fine!
And that's fair enough. I just said he cannot be trusted which is the only and undeniable truth in the case.
It's not really the ability/lack of experience, though, the problem's really with the mentality. He doesn't really have the mentality of someone like Vidic, he seems to want to go forward with the ball too much.I think that's a little harsh. 19 times out of 20 he can be relied upon. It's just every so often he goes mental. Every good defender's prone to moments of madness, it's just the mark of a world-class defender that they hardly ever make them. It's why Terry is still so good. Give Luiz time (which isn't a terrible thing, it's not like he's going to be a bad or even average defender in the meantime) and at his current rate of progression he'll be even better by next year.

Perhaps, but then I wouldn't really say L?cio was consistently world-class; I don't believe Luiz is, either.Eh, I don't see him doing it any more than, say, Lucio ever did. It's just that people are quicker to deride him for it.
I said earlier in the season (I think it was in the United thread) and there is no crisis for any of the big 3 clubs - United, City or Chelsea, people are just fickle when it comes to results and form.Won 6 and drawn 1 of our last seven matches. Crisis?

I didn't say Chelsea shouldn't keep him, I was just saying that using L?cio as an example doesn't prove that attack-minded defenders exist - well, at least, top-class ones. Basically, I don't believe Luiz will ever reach the level of someone like Terry, in terms of defensive ability.Ugh, I hate it when people use the reasoning "[player] isn't world class" as a reason for not keeping them. No team in the world has an entire lineup of world class players. Like I said, Luiz isn't world class. That's fine. It really doesn't matter, so long as they're good enough for the job, and Luiz undoubtedly is.

So by extension you're saying that a top-class defender cannot offer anything in attack? Like Ferdinand did for over a decade? There's been plenty of attacking defenders who've been consistently good over the course of their career.
Luiz won't reach the level of John Terry, one of the best defenders in Premier League history and one of the finest the world has to offer? That's no bad thing. Very few players will reach John Terry's level, and expecting them to is ridiculous. There's what, maybe two young defenders right now who have the potential to be on Terry's level?
