You have to wonder why though. I'd be inclined to agree that it's just how they are as players if they didn't all seem to fall into the same pattern of 2/3 good games, 2/3 bad.

I can't fathom any other reason tbh

The whole defence was poor, not just Cahill. Luiz makes it easier for me to blame him when he does what he does week in week out. Why don't you just admit that Cahill is the better defender of the two? I mean, it's quite obvious. When Cahill ***** up, or any other player for that matter, I am the first to blame them. And I blame the whole defence for yesterday's loss.

I'd like to know what these 'week in week out' mistakes have been, because Cahill has made a LOT more than Luiz this season. The only two players that were good yesterday were Hazard and Scheurrle, everyone else was average to poor.. to very poor (Ramires, Cech, Cahill, Eto'o briefly).

Rewatch the first goal. Terrible decision from Cech to come for the ball, but who was man marking Crouch when the corner was about to come in? Watch the 2nd goal. Some might say it's a foul on Azpi, it could've easily been called as one, but I thought he was a bit weak. Mikel didn't help by just jogging back and Gary did what he does so often - backing off attackers and giving them the angle to shoot, which Ireland did.

The 10 minutes after the 2nd went in was some of the worst defending I've ever seen. Misjudging the flight of the ball, hesitant in going to challenging a bouncing ball. Terry who didn't have a great game got him out of trouble twice in that period.

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying that Cahill is an awful player. I think he's a great SQUAD player to have. I just have a problem whereby Cahill gets little to no stick for terrible performances but when Luiz makes a mistake the whole world explodes. Gary is lucky he's English.

I'll give you a reason for that - Luiz thinks he is Messi, Cahill thinks he is Cahill. Got it?

Overall, I agree with everything you said. As I said, the whole defence was poor (including Cech). And btw, Cech has also had some terrible performances this season.

It's nothing to do with the fact that Cahill's English, it's just when Cahill makes mistakes, they're not as visible because a lot of the time he can recover from them - whereas Luiz doesn't seem to do that. And of course, there's the obvious difference that Luiz tries to play as an attacking midfielder at times, which doesn't help his cause much.

I'm not sure about the first goal or the '10 minutes after the 2nd', but the 2nd goal wasn't Cahill's fault. If Azpilicueta hadn't fallen over/been fouled, then Chelsea would've been all right. However, since he has, Cahill has to back off there since he has Crouch lurking in the box behind him, and only Ivanović with him, so if he loses out to Ireland, then Chelsea're royally ****** basically because it's two on one in their own box. He made the right decision for the second goal, it's just that he was unlucky Ireland's shot was so good.

I disagree. Part of the reason you see Cahill on the floor often trying to block shots is because he's been caught out of position or has been ball watching. If Player A makes no mistakes the entire game and Player B loses his man often but gets back one of those times to make a great block, who is generally perceived to have had the better game?

I didn't say the 2nd was entirely his fault, just that he was weak and resorted to the passive defending that has led to so many goals. He did the same vs. Adebayor, the same vs Yaya Toure, the same vs. Benteke when he ended up falling over backwards. The same vs. Aguero when he backed off and played him onside (Aguero did the exact same thing to him at the Etihad). Not just the backing off but the way he positions himself is inviting the player to find the corner of the net.

Suarez was spottwd in Chelsea today and this as expected has sparked some rumours. I think he was just out doing some shopping etc though and is nothing to do with a transfer but who knows.

I personally dislike the mug, but imagine how Liverpool fans would feel if we stole him the way we stole Torres. Thousands of burning shirts.. Actually when I think about it, it's not really stealing when 50mil is involved. I doubt they would not accept another 50.

Also unlike Torres I think Suarez would be incredible for us but it isn't happening imo will just have to make do dreaming of him banging in goals for us and ripping teams apart with the likes of hazard, mata and Oscar.

I agree how defenders are often judged on the amount of miraculous tackles/blocks they make, rather than the lack of mistakes made, but that's just football to be honest - strikers get the most credit in most cases. The thing is, though, he's not exactly an extremely strong player, so going into tackles sometimes isn't the best option since if he loses out in the challenge (which even the best players sometimes do), Terry's probably going to get outpaced and the attacker'll be one-on-one with the keeper.

?50 million for Torres was good because he was really off-form at the time, and Kenny needed money to spend on his own people. This time, especially with Bale's inflated transfer and Rodgers's stance over the Su?rez saga over the summer, I reckon it'll take more than ?50 million to get him.

Hazard + Mata + Oscar + Su?rez = unstoppable...

Well **** them then. I dont care. Eto'o is better anyways.

Su?rez is infinitely better than Eto'o...

Whoosh?

We aren't winning the league this season. Might as well carve Arsenals or Man City's name on the trophy now... Just hope Man Utd finish outside the Top 4 and then all-out pursuit for Rooney and Gundogan in the summer

It's a little bit early in the season to be calling it. We have the potential to win it still, if we can make our pieces fit together in time.

Ah, sarcasm. My bad. I thought it was delusion.

Chelsea have about the same chance of winning the league as City, to be honest. I thought they'd win it at the start of the season, and I'm still sticking with that. Arsenal've been consistent, but I'm still unsure on them, and City are as inconsistent as Chelsea.

Seems like Van Ginkels recovery is going really well and he is back in light training :)
