No, it's not all about goals scored, but if none of your strikers can score more than a Norwich striker, a[n Everton] full-back and a Stoke playmaker, then that no doubt reduces your chances of winning/challenging for the league. I'm not saying that's necessarily the target, I don't know, but I'm just saying that with a good, new striker, you could be unstoppable. As you've said, you've got a fantastic defensive base to build on, with a decent midfield (maybe missing a deep-lying centre-midfielder), so a top class striker would complement that nicely. Good sides may be built from the back, but top sides are very strong in both defence and attack.

Lampard has played attacking-midfield in the past, so he is competent there. Maybe he isn't as effective as he was before, but I'm naming players who can do a job in that position in a crisis (which is what depth is all about). Bertrand can play as a defensive-winger (replacing an attacking-midfielder if needed), and although the other two won't get near Hazard/Oscar/Willian, they are worth keeping. The thing is, if you look at other top clubs, none of them have two very good players in each position, spending to get that much depth is a waste. Depth is always good, but too much depth either results in a waste of money, or a lack of playing time for some top players - sometimes, the best squads don't have all the best players, but some great players and some willing, competent and cheap backups.

And we are building for the future and next season will have a potential world class striker back at our club won't we? For Chelsea this season its not about this season, this season is to prepare us for the future.

Says who? I doubt Abramovich, or even Mourinho thinks like that unfortunately.

Actually Ambramovich does, if he didn't then he would have sanctioned the 60m or so we needed and brought in Cavani and wouldn't have spend another fortune developing youth infrastructure this past year

Just because he doesn't sanction the money to buy a top player, doesn't mean he's keen on developing youth. Even billionaire have limits, especially with FFP coming into effect - and likewise, developing youth infrastructure does show some signs of believing in youth more, but then most sugar-daddy-owned clubs are doing that, because they have the money. Abramovich, as you will know very well, is notorious for his impatience when it comes to success, and maybe I've just a skeptic, but I doubt he's changed much.

What's with the diving at this club? I'm starting to think there's a special 'Diving' part in every training session. Cut it out ffs. It's disgusting.

And that brings to an end the busy festive period. For once, we do not find ourselves out of the running for the title after this period. Well done lads

Jose is the only manager under Roman who has constantly said "im building something for the future" even with us fans the majority actually believe he will be given time.

It was horrible! No need for it what so ever, we was 1 up too!

Which = improvement! Very positive signs at the moment.

Very enjoyable game of football today and one thing it done was highlight our strength in depth compared to last season. Last season we had Yossi and Marin, this season we had Mata, Hazard, Torres and JT on the bench! I felt Derby defended well in the 1st half leaving us to try from long range but it was just a matter of time before we started finding a few gaps.

You know what they say, "you wait ages for a bus and 2 come along as once" and i bet that's what Mikel feels like in terms of goals. Sensational delivery by Willian (who was exceptional once again) and a good header by Jon boy. Oscar who again played brilliantly well deserved his goal but it just shows how important that attacking 3 are. Southampton on Wednesday 0-0 both Oscar and Willian come on we win 3-0 and today 0-0 Hazard comes on and we win 2-0. I see the amount of people slating Jose for not playing Mata has severely reduced in the recent weeks, funny that.

Things are looking far more brighter than they had been at this stage of the past 2 seasons so its all positive for me. UTC!

I still think we are morons for not playing Mata. Nothing will ever change my opinion. We are destroying Mata atm and he certainly does not deserve that.

I have posted most of Feroze's videos on here and here is another beauty

So Lampard, Cole, Terry and Cech all out of contract in the summer if I am not wrong. Not entirely sure on Cech mind ... Personally believe only Terry will be offered a new contract. If Cech is out of contract then he will probably be let go. If not then sold in the summer.

Courtois will be recalled after the WC. He is more than ready and the longer we make him play second fiddle, the higher chance he will leave for another club. Probably go in for Shaw to replace Cole. Guarin if brought in this window would be a good replacement for Lamps along with the return of MvG

A good striker and CM would be other additions. Gundogan would be a great signing although we do need someone to replace Essien who is probably on the way out in the summer. Just can't cut it anymore

Perhaps we can promote from within? Chalobah is rated pretty highly by Jose although he looks like he is another year off from playing top level EPL football. McEachran would frankly be lucky to even make it to the EPL at the rate he is going. Piazon is having a great season in the Dutch League although he would probably not make it in the foreseeable future either due to the sheet amount of talent we have in his position. Lukaku is probably the only youngster at this point who is certain to have a major role next season

Hmm, I'm still unsure about this - I'm not sure if I can believe what Mourinho is saying (you said it yourself before, he's very good at mind games), it may just be something to please the fans. Especially considering his record, I think it's unlikely he's telling the truth.

Just because others are playing well doesn't make it any better Mata isn't playing, though. He's a quality player, as shown by his performances in previous seasons, and if you employed him in his proper role for a stretch of games, maybe he'd be even better than Hazard/Oscar/Willian - who knows? We all knew Hazard, Oscar and Willian were all top players before anyway, it's just it's obvious that so is Mata.

I wouldn't say Lukaku is certain to have a major role next season, many people thought he would have a major role this season due to his performances for West Brom last season, but it hasn't happened. I do think he deserves to play a role next season at Chelsea, but I wouldn't say it's certain.

Cech has contract until 2016 and I doubt he will be sold in the summer.

Well he certainly won't be automatic No.1 pick anymore ... I really don't see much sense in keeping him. Better to sell him while he still has some value because its pretty obvious Courtois will make it

Well you got it wrong here, Lukaku is the one who requested for a loan move as he was afraid competition from Torres and Eto'o would prevent him from playing regularly and since it was a World Cup year, he wasn't willing to take the chance. Jose wanted to keep him

Yes, he wanted to leave, but Mourinho didn't help by signing Eto'o. If Lukaku wanted to make it into the first team, he would've had to fight for one striker spot with three others - something which isn't the easiest thing to do! And if Mourinho really, really wanted to keep him, he couldn't said no and promised him first team football, it was clear after Eto'o signing that Lukaku wasn't going to play a 'major part' this season.

Sensible Chelsea is oxymoron.
