I don't want to belittle Schurrle defensively contribution at all. It's just that Willian has that endless stamina and pace that lets him win the ball back in our half one moment and still be in the opponent's penalty area a few seconds later.
Thanks mate. I've been slowly getting more and more frustrated with Lukaku, and I've really gained a lot of respect for Schurrle this year. This moment sticks out in my mind especially:
He had been really inconsistent all year and he seen 2/3 good games in a Chelsea shirt since the start of the season. He was going through a bad spell and had been dropped a lot. Mourinho had told him to bulk up and adapt to the PL. Then came this game against Fulham, where he ripped them apart. The joy on his face was infectious: it was obvious that he was proud of his accomplishment and gald to have repaid the club's faith in him. After the game, he praised the manager for developing him and Hazard for giving him some amazing chances.
This is where Lukaku would have said something along the lines of: "I was capable this all along, if only people could have seen it sooner." You only have to look at his reaction when Wilmots subbed him off: the guy had a tantrum, started mouthing off then basically told his concerned teammates to **** off.
So, how did our man Schurrle react to finally proving that he was good enough. Was it with that arrogance and sense of smug entitelement? No.
The difference in class and maturity is staggering.
