Fair point, but Rafa or AVB could have done the same. It's not rocket science. I know that they are adepts of the high line, but the whole point of football is that you work with the hand you've been dealt with, until you can get new players. Luiz was a liability, Cahill was ok-ish, Terry was our best defender, who cannot play in a way they wanted.
It's like in FM: you cannot take the same tactic and expect it work exactly the same way for every team.
Same goes with Lampard. He did not decline drastically, he was just moved into a position that did not suite him at all.
That doesn't fit how they play to be fair, that side that was built for sitting deep. In many way they were not a fit for each other, Rafa did well to find a middle ground despite not getting the players he badly needed, ie the ones you then went an bought for Jose
