What you don't want to do is stand still and think you've got enough when everyone else is strengthening. Fergie made that mistake in his latter years when he won the PL and it cost us the next season giving City the title. In this market you're going to overpay... something you have to accept if you want to improve on quality, rather than quantity.

Just a question. Why are you so worried about money? We have money. WE DO. We've got a new shirt deal (double the Samsung money). We can spend more than 100m easily. Let Abramovich worry about money, but let me tell ya - there's no reason to.

Yes, £80m for Pogba is a ridiculous price and to be honest we don't need him. However I'd take Griezmann in a heartbeat for £40m. He'd be the perfect signing for us and if I was in Jose's shoes I'd make signing him our main priority during this transfer window.
 
At €100m (~£72m) + 5-year deal at £150k pw, Paul Pogba wd cost £22.2m py on FFP books. Expensive, but not unheard of. Di Maria costs £22.3m.

Of course we have enough money. We can buy Ronaldo tomorrow if we choose to. The question is why should we act silly just because we can? You purchase Pogba for £80m now and the next thing you know, every single club will drive up the price of their player as soon as we are involved because they know we are stupid

I think he would be a fantastic signing as well but the price is too much at the moment. We really should have bought him when he was at Sociedad. I would take Pedro at £21m. I genuinely feel Pedro would thrive at Chelsea under Mourinho

Possibly, but in the current market I still think it's a reasonable price for Griezmann and he'd definitely be worth every penny. I completely agree, Pedro for £21m would be an excellent piece of business from us.

I think the club is trying to work something out by sending Filipe Luis the other way. Griezzmann/Pedro, Schneiderlin and Baba Rahman would be a very good transfer window imo

Think Baba has signed for another team. No chance on Schniederlin :)
 
Chelsea are not in for Schneiderlin whatsoever as far as I'm aware. Bit baffling because one key injury to Matic and that midfield looks a whole lot weaker IMO.

Exactly. Mikel is a useful if somewhat limited player. RLC is not ready to get serious minutes. I can't fathom why we aren't fighting tooth and nail for Schneiderlin
 
Now I'm one to admire Jose's achievements and he is undoubtedly one of the best managers in the game. But do you guys think that selling De Bruyne now was way too premature and going to be a bad mistake after the season he's just had? Best player in Bundesliga and is good as anyone in the world in his position on his day IMO.

Quite baffling how you let him go so soon, whenever I saw him for Chelsea always thought he was a player who was capable of being special.

What do we gain by sitting on the money though? The stadium rebuild won't be nearly as much of a drain as people think it will, FFP is being relaxed and we have lots of revenue left from recent deals. If we want to compete with the real giants of Europe then we need a few more top class players. If that means having to overpay by 25-30% then so be it.

Yeah, I read somewhere that we've offered £35m plus Felipe Luis for Griezmann. Now I don't know if Felipe Luis does want to leave or not, but if he doesn't then I wouldn't get rid of him to be honest. I'd much rather see us offer Salah instead of Felipe Luis, if the rumours are true that is. Personally I'd be happy if we bought Griezmann/ Pedro, Aranguiz and maybe John Stones.
