Sure, but like I've said, you can't reasonably give all the credit to Mourinho. Di Mateo's side, for example, allowed amongst the least goals in CL group stages, they kept Barca quiet in the semis at home, they managed to draw away while playing 60 minutes with 10 men, and only allowed one goal in 120 minutes of being absolutely battered by Heynckes Bayern. And that's what, 4 years ago? They've been doing that **** for a long time now.

And its the backline that really makes or breaks playing in that style. Terry may have mobility of Stephen Hawking, but he's still the best out there when defending with deep line. Similarily, Cahill may **** himself everytime he has to step outside of the box, but put him 5 meters from his own post and he turns into Georgio Cahillini, Destroyer of Dreams.

Mourinho without a doubt is the best defensive manager out there, but he didn't turn Chelsea into the best defensive formation. They already were that when he arrived.

It can be reasonably argued that a lot of what he did in his first spell at the club actually contributed towards players such as Terry's development which stuck till now. Although I broadly agree with the general consensus, Mourinho is a great defensive manager but their are other managers too who can hold their own

Zouma has had a few good performances here and there marking players out of the game etc. but lets not get carried away, nothing is as valuable to a player as regular game time.

I just can't agree with the point of Mourinho being the only manager in PL who can set up and organise a team defensively, it's a very flawed point and it certainly isn't true. Any team for example Pulis manages has to be a cohesive unit in some form in order to work effectively under him. I think you're doing a lot of managers a disservice by saying they just throw players behind a ball in order to do it, honestly you could aim that at Mourinho a lot of times, there is more to it then that.

He done far more than just "man marking" players mate trust me.

Holy ******* ****.

This better be somewhere to buy otherwise why post it lol

Probably, but the main point was that if he doesn't play many games in his favoured position he won't progress as quick.

JT has to be phased out sooner rather than later and Cahill is about to hit 30 now too so having both Zouma and Stones could be a good way to get that next partnership up and running

Also, what does everyone think about Stones? Is he gonna be the new Terry? Potential is there definitely. 30m for him is fine in my opinion in case we go for that.

Personally I hate it when players get labeled as 'The new Messi' or 'The new Terry', there's only one JT. Now whether or not Stones will turn into a world-class defender like Terry it's to soon to say, but like you've said the potentials there and I'm certain under the tutelage of Mourinho he'll improve. I think £25m to £30m is a reasonable price for him and going into this window there were two players I wanted Chelsea to sign above all else, one was Griezmann and the other was Stones, so I'd be delighted if we managed to sign him.

Seen today they want excess of that.

Yeah, apparently we're set to make an improved offer somewhere in the region of £26m to £32m. Also from what else I've read it seems as though Mourinho is really determined to get this deal done.

All this Stones talk has got me thinking... I'm absolutely dreading the day JT retires. I still can't believe Terry's 34, or that Frank and Drogba are both 37.

So Mourinho's confirmed that we've made a bid for John Stones. Hopefully we'll reach some sort of agreement with Everton. All that'll be needed in my opinion after Stones is an attacking midfielder (Griezmann), given no one leaves that is.

This one sentence shows how much the club has changed in a nutshell.

Mourinho: "I said ‘Begovic’ and they said ‘Okay, you can have Begovic’. End of story. Petr is happy. I am happy with what we have." [Mirror]

Yeah it's been confirmed that a bid was made for Stones but the board and Martinez have also said unequivably he is not for sale. Like Arteta wasn't (Kappa). I suspect they will have to bid £30 million or more. At least you'd get more bang for your buck compared to someone like Sterling who is vastly over valued
