Pre-story

Now that I have finally learnt how to play and enjoy Football Manager 14, I have decided to embark on another story. I would like you potential readers to help me decide which story I should do. I have narrowed it down to four different options. They are:

Option 1 - Journeyman Story

A classic journeyman story where I will start with Sunday League experience, and try to work my way up to managerial excellence. Please also suggest any leagues you would like to see loaded. I can load up quite a few as I have a decent PC.

Option 2 - Emulate The Mighty Luigi De Mario

My best ever save was on FM13, where I started at Sporting Lisbon before joining Dortmund. I went on to have huge success, winning the German League 22 times, the Champions League 6 times as well as several other trophies along the way. My aim will be to try and replicate that success, starting as Sporting, and moving onto Dortmund.

Option 3 - A Journey To The Top

I will create a brand new team, Durrington FC, and place them in the Blue Square South. My aim will be to create a brand new footballing powerhouse, with the aim of winning both the Premiership and the Champions League.

Option 4 - Returning Liverpool To Glory

I will look to restore my favorite team back to former glories. I want to know Manchester United back off their perch, and bring back the success which Liverpool have been so desperately lacking over the last few years.

Please post below as to which option you would like to see the most. Thanks!

Hate Liverpool but not seen a great story on them so I voted that!

Could you go into more depth with option 3 like how you're getting the players etc?

Will be starting with an empty squad. Will give myself a reasonable wage & transfer budget, but nothing too large.

Thanks all for your votes so far. Surprised to see it is so close! Keep them coming

Hoping to start this is 30 mins if there is a clear winner. Currently tied between journeyman and creating a new team.

And the winner is...

Option 3 - A Journey To The Top

The start of the story is to follow shortly

Gosport Removed From Skrill South

The FA has today announced that Gosport Borough have been removed from the Skrill South division due to irregular betting patterns. Several players, as well as staff members have been charged, and due to the severity of the case the FA has decided to remove the club from the division. They have now been replaced by newly formed side Durrington FC.

Who Are Durrington FC?

Durrington FC are a newly formed team which now find themselves in the Skrill South. Their main problem is they currently have no players or staff registered to the club, other than their manager Jordan Rollinson. It is going to be a tough task for him to build up a squad in time for the start of the season. There is plenty of work to be done, but there is also much optimism around the south coast club. Owner Brett Brown has already put money into the club in developing a new 5,000 all seater stadium.

I have just started a save like this, great entertainment! I will follow your story! good luck.

Removed for betting, :D They were relegated in the 1st season in my save anyways.

My first update is going to be HUUGE! Gonna have to do an update on every player! Keep patient until I get to post it :)

Love a good journeyman save! ;)

Well, maybe you read my journeyman save and give your thoughts?
I would really appreciate that!
it's not that well written, but I think it is a very interesting German save.

One Very BIG Update

With the season now just days away, I have got my first team pretty much nailed down. I have brought in twenty two player so far, as well as six members of staff. Due to the high number of players being signed, it is obviously going to take quite a long time for the squad to gel. Because of this, my expectation in the first season is just to survive! Next season we will be looking at gaining promotion.

Getting in staff is not my strong point, but I feel I have got an alright coaching team. I made sure most of them had a fairly high level of working with youngsters as there are several young players at the squad.

I have chosen thirty-two year old Scottish centre back Tom Jones as captain, and as my vice-captain I have thirty-eight year old Jamaican international Micah Hyde. I was delighted at being able to sign Hyde, who has vast amounts of experience, which will be really helpful to the squad. Our key player is goalkeeper David Bevan, while our hot prospect is Michael Bartlam

These are the two goalkeepers I have bought in. Bevan will be my regular goalkeeper, with Bernstein as my backup. I am also looking to sign a young goalkeeper for the future, but I am happy with the the two at the moment.

I an very happy with the defenders I have got in. Captain Tom Jordan is the best of our central defenders, with Ugo Udoji just behind him. Bartlam is our hottest prospect in defense, but also has the quality to be in the first team already. Full back Ed Book also has potential to be a good player in the future.

The midfield is perhaps our weakest position at the moment. Vice-captain Micah Hyde is the best player in the centre of midfield. On loan signing Jordan Goddard was a good signing, and I am hoping to be able to sign him at the end of his loan. I am still keeping an eye out for quality players in this position though.

Thirty-six year old Scottish striker Lee Peacock is our best striker, with Matt Dinsmore coming in a close second. I am hoping the two will be able to form a good partnership and get the club the goals we need to ensure safety this season.

The Tactics

View attachment 385296

This is the tactic I will mainly be using this season. My aim is to be solid at the back, whist getting a few goals in the process.

So that is the first, big update done! From now on, I will be looking to do monthly updates with all the matches we play. Stay tuned.

Mixed Start For Durrington FC

Things were always going to be tough for Durrington FC in the first season in the Skrill South, and this proved to be true in their opening matches of the season. On a positive note, they did not roll over easily, losing their opening two matches 2-1. They got their first win of the season in their third game though, this time winning 2-1. The final game of the month ended in a 0-0 draw.

Sutton 2 - 1 Durrington FC

It is always disappointing to lose your opening game of the season, but we put on a poor performance two which is doubly disappointing. We conseeded both goals from set pieces.

Durrington 1 - 2 Whitehawk

Another 2-1 loss, this time at home against Whitehawk. We put on another poor performance, and deserved to lose. One again we conseeded two set pieces, so I have put the team training on defending set pieces. Egbeku got his first goal of the season.

Staines 1 - 2 Durrington FC

At least it did not take too long for us to register our first win. We put on a good performance, with Dinsmore scoring with a neat finish, before Goddard scored a long range shot. Our work on defending set pieces seemed to have worked, as this time we conseeded from open play.

Durrington FC 0 - 0 Eastleigh

The final game of the month ended in a boring 0-0 against Eastleigh.

League Table

View attachment 385279

We are currently sitting in 16th place. We will take that come the end of the season. Hoping we can get a little unbeaten run going into next month.
