After last years success (...) http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/foot...narios/107232-great-san-marino-challenge.html is back for 2014!

Always had a soft spot for this classic challenge since the older versions of the game, credit to fellow San Marino specialist and fm-baser Ubernisation for inspiring - obsessing? - me again with his amazing story a few years ago :)

The challenge: take control of San Marino - the club - competing in Italian Serie C1 (3rd tier) and lead them all the way to Serie A championship and continental success. At the same time your goal is to take San Marino - the national team - from being virtually the worst member amongst FIFA affiliated teams to become a respectable football country, and eventually contend for major international tournaments.

Things will look like this at the start of the game:

The key part of this challenge is using the club's progress to improve the quality of the national team. Improve training & youth facilities, expand recruitment network, hire quality staff, climb up the leagues and build an international reputation: do as much as you can in order to produce a new generation of local talent and dramatically improve the atrocious standard of Sammarinese footballers.

Of course San Marino the club needs money to get things started and help San Marino the country, and trust me you're not getting those $$$ as long as you're stuck in the Italian lower leagues. Needless to say first thing on your to-do list is to escape from Serie C misery and reach Serie A as soon as possible to get that vital cash from league, sponsorships, TV deals etc

Long story short: the future of the whole country depends on you and your club!

Obviously this is an open challenge without limits of time or specific goals to achieve, it does require some kind of long term commitment though. You're welcome to post your progress with both club and/or country, results, players, unusual screens, signings, tactics, best eleven, promising prospects from your academy etc. Whatever you like!

Returning from last year are the Great San Marino Mini-Challenges, no points awarded or rankings this is just for good fun! Anyway those who complete at least one of the "extras" with the club AND one with the country will be inducted to the San Marino Hall of Fame which will be added in OP

RULES & INSTRUCTIONS

You need to load all players of San Marino nationality at the start of the game, otherwise the NT won't be available (before starting: database size > custom > add all players from SAN MARINO)

You can start the challenge as club manager, NT manager or both.

Do not use external database, genie scout, FMRTE or any other editor. Not only this goes against the spirit of the challenge, it simply makes it meaningless. Also do not manage multiple clubs at the same time, as this would give you an unfair advantage with transfers, scouting, knowledge etc. The only exception allowed would be managing a Sammarinese club and using a custom database with Sammarinese League, as this is very much in the spirit of the challenge.

Obviously this is your game and you can play the way you like but please respect these simple rules if you want to join this particular challenge.

CAMPIONATO SAMMARINESE by sammyt

For those who want to try the infamous San Marino Triple or just have a taste of the SM local league, you can download the mighty Campionato Sammarinese here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/3fqc0n4ojaj5wyn/San+Marino+League+2014.dbc all credit to sammyt and many thanks to him for his top quality contributions to the SM community!

Hope to see your progress soon, good luck to all my fellow Titani managers and remember: it IS possible!

Will definitely be attempting this again this year after making it to the World Cup Quarter Finals on FM12, beating England 5-1 in the 2nd knockout round! Does anyone know if someone has made the Sammarinese league yet?

Yay, it's back!

That said, this year I've gone and created the Gibraltarian leagues, so I won't be participating, but I'll definitely be following along.

Well my progress so far...

View attachment 456675View attachment 456674

I'm top of the serie a, still unbeaten. Scoring very nearly 3 goals a game on average in the serie a, been an awesome season so far, already won it. This is going to be my 2nd league title in 2 years. Last season I somehow won the champions league with a weaker squad than this seasons, beat Schalke in the final. My squad is has a couple of good regens and a couple of good players. My net transfer spend has been around ?38m. The season I'm in I've spent ?97million, but despite this I've managed to sell ?101million (largely thanks to Arsenal buying my 2 wingers Eyserric and Thauvin for 20 and 35m). Things are going good. I've got no San Marinese players in my 1st team squad and my academy is slowly improving. I've got a few (albeit 2 and a half stars) which say they will become stars of the serie a. My champions league win last season put my team at worldwide status so thats why 2 and a half stars to become leading stars of the serie a i think! Club currently worth ?347m, highest italian team ahead of Juventus on ?282m.

Anyway I'm gonna carry on, just updating my progress so far :)

(screens attached at the bottom are just random lol)

Here is a guide Kandersson wrote for FM12, which really helped me back then. Obviously some of it is now out of date but the majority is still relevant to the challenge this year. http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/foot...-san-marino-guide-kandersson.html#post1349200.

Keep us updated on how you get on!

good results already! Xenon you seem to be dominating serie A, time to take over NT?

I dont know if sammyt is going to make SM league this time, if/when he does I'll galdly add to OP.

Until then I've found this over at thedugout.net if people are interested, not tried it personally though (all credit to the author of the post obviously) Campionato Sammarinese - The Dugout Football Manager Community should be good :)

for the first time i Accept this challenge,, not bad,, still had 3rd from augustus till desember,, but my defender team so poor.. any suguestion for DC and DCL :D maybe with loan player,,thanks :D

I'm gonna try this. Always wanted to but never had the motivation before.
Sadly, I'll be doing it on FM13 though until the ME on FM14 is fixed to a playable level.
Going to be starting in the Campionato Sammarinese with a club, and then try to work my way up to taking over the San Marino club, followed by the NT.
Should make things a bit more interesting. :)

Nah going to leave the NT alone for a bit until I feel San Marino can put together a decent team. Got some decent youngsters, no world beaters, but decent all the same coming through so I'm working on developing them. The San Marino youth sides are actually winning some games now, which is nice to see. Going to keep on it, each year my youth recruitment and all the facilities improve. Hopefully it will continue this way.

Can you post SS of some of your most promising youngsters? :)

Right well you have to realize that currently I've got an awesome squad of players in some positions. This has raised the level of squad massively. These players I show should eventually become part of my squad in some capacity.

2 and a half star potential = leading serie a star player in my scouting reports. Potential of that right back is 2 star, but this following player's current ability is also 2* as to demonstrate the level of ability 2* is in my scouting reports. This regen Braitner is currently my first choice right back by miles.

View attachment 456133

In comparison a 4* player would be one of the best in the game...

View attachment 456128

ps... Lamela is by far my highest paid player and is my best player, 2nd highest ?89k called Bruma. (Only spent 40.5million net in transfers since the beginning of the game, around the same value I bought Lamela for)

veteran defenders are the way to go in lower leagues

I recommend the likes of Stovini, Rivalta and the great Bobo Balde :)

Will be giving this a go along with the Gary Speed challenge. Really like challenges that are focused on developing youth and improving national teams!

Well I have finished my first season....

Got bit of a job on my hands for next though already as won the title with most the players being on loan!

I took over the NT team at the start too, things haven't gone as well in that area....
View attachment 454400

(picked up a cracking win against Gibraltar. As I have never done this before though, is that a result to be proud of?)

I have been handed a tough group for the ECQ...
