I understand the move on Shakthar's side, that was the price and you never even came close to hitting it. Not sure I understand it on his side though. Someone would have triggered that in the summer.

Someone else would have triggered it but would they have offered him the insane wages he'll get in China?

26. Prime of your career. Desperate to break into the Brazil side for the next World Cup (quite possibly your last chance of that.). And you disappear into obscurity in China.

Not anymore. Check the Brazil squad and how many have moved to China. China have already signed half of Brazil, he will have plenty of Brazilians who will be in the world cup squad.

Staggering.

And I aren't naive enough to not understand why most would jump at that if it was offered to them. But it still makes a complete mockery of all he's publicly said and how he values his career.

If he picks up an injury or loses form he wouldn't get a move to the UK and the big deal he, is doing what most people do in there careers and taking a massive pay rise over the possibility of a smaller one

Confirmed.

Interestingly, it seems it was Klopp himself who declined to pay the asking price - So hopefully he has targets either lined up or already in mind for the summer

Not sure why we even tried to target a player like that, bit of a let off in my eyes. Would rather grab someone like Higuain.

Higuain would command at least a 40mil+ fee with wages probably in the 150k+ region aswell

Most players go where the money is, I mean if we had paid 50k more a week to Alexis Sanchez I doubt he'd be playing for Arsenal

I think the point was a more experienced, proven goalscorer more than the high fee.

Wouldn't pay too much attention to that. Klopp doesn't get involved in fees so it would be a massive U-turn for him to do that.

Say's it all. If he's willing to go to China chasing the money at 26, then it's a blessing we wouldn't meet Shaktar's demands.

Not the type of character you want on your team. Let alone as a focal point.

Lot of players join clubs for money. doesn't mean they are any less professional. we really need to move away from this high horse stuff on money. Fooling ourselves if we think every player comes to our clubs because of their names.

Most players in the league have come for the money. Doesn't make them any less than those who claim to play for the shirt.

The almost certainly commands a high fee and competition to sign that player though.. Which is where the problem lies

He wasn't negotiating it, he simply said a yes or no at the end with FSG prepared to pay the asking price

I couldn't care less if a player came to Liverpool for money. If it made the team better than that's all that matters.

The 'I am glad we didn't sign the money-grabber' Is an old-fashioned view which is quite outdated now

Leaflet's being handed out the ground/ pubs tomorrow from Spion Kop 1906. There can be NO excuse for not walking. We need to show solidarity together. But we know many won't and that's a continued major problem in itself.

Biggest game of the year by FAR for me tomorrow. Not on the park in terms of points or performance. But off it with the first shots of a new battle being fired across a new set of American's bows. The club started down the slippery path years back of eroding everything we hold dear about Liverpool FC. Slowly but surely FSG and Ayre are putting the final nail in that. Customers not supporters and a price hike out of all reality to both where the team currently are and the mega riches flooding in from elsewhere is the final straw. It's our duty to let them know we won't tolerate this any longer. This will get messy but we've been down this road before.

Forza 77!

Again, I'm completely with you on that.

The fact he's gone chasing that money in China, in the prime of his career, after everything else he 'claimed' is why I'm glad he's not here.

Exactly. there will have been players at United for who we are, players because we were the best, players because we paid the best. What matters to me is that whatever their motives, they are committed and professional.
