People now saying its luck as we have had 13 penalties this season.

The reason? the style of play, trickery in the area, Luis Suarez... our relentless play earns these penalties. At least 90% were stonewall..

Yup. All that mobility and trickery sets defenses on fire.

Big Sam is a miserable ****. Both pens were rightly given and Carroll almost knocked Mignolet out! Not to mention we hit the woodwork loads again, that's 25 times this season. Looks like we will be winning the "hitting the woodwork league" again as we did last season!

Think it was 13, if we win our next five we will break the record.

I never said it hasn't happened before just curious as to who the last team to win 9 in a row were.. Not exactly a common run of form.

Arsenal's was 14, over two seasons though.

We were and it was 11 games in a row.

Lack of European games and early exits from both cups meant Liverpool could concentrate solely on the league from January. Not to mention Liverpool had a weeks rest more often than not before league games. Pelligerini and Mourinho can only dream of having such lax schedule. Will be very interesting to see how the Liverpool squad cope next season ...

Not our fault Chelsea loaned out their only solid Striker, City have more than enough depth to deal with Europe. It's a pretty poor excuse from people who fail to accept that Liverpool are top on merit.

So it's all to do with our players having more time to recover from the previous match and nothing to do with player performances, having the best strike partnership in the league or Rodgers' tactics usually being spot on?

Obviously we will add depth to our side in the summer and be able to compete in other competitions.

Yeah we've had less competitions to play in, but if we had more, we'd have strengthened. As it is, we've only had to focus on the league, but that's a **** poor argument if you think that's the main reason we're top.

We're top because we have a solid team, a manager who's gotten his tactics spot-on, two strikers who can't stop scoring, a revitalized Gerrard, and a team that plays for each other.

Liverpool are top for 2 reasons.

1) Brendan Rodgers
2) They play as a team. Something other clubs should attempt to do once in a while, then they may actually win something.

It honestly isn't ... And I never said anything about Chelsea's strikers. The sooner you accept that the Liverpool squad would never have survived a European campaign along with the other domestic competitions, the better. If Chelsea or City only had the league to concentrate on from January, they would be doing much better

Umm doesn't the extra rest time contribute directly to better performances? Doesn't the extra rest the contribute directly to having more time to scout the opposition and allow Rodgers to get his tactics spot on? Adding depth is one thing though ... The more pertinent question would be whether Suarez will be able to sustain this absurd run of goal scoring form when Europe comes calling

I never said it was the main reason but it definitely has been a huge factor. No Euope and early exits from both cup competitions

If we had been in Europe, we'd have strengthened more. We weren't, so we didn't.

Liverpool are top on merit but will need to strengthen next year. End of discussion.

The biggest factor has been Rodgers by far though.

He's taken half the squad to a whole new level. Even Flanagan's blossoming. So impressive. Manager of the year if he wins the Prem, still a contender if he doesn't.

It's easy to forget that regardless of Europe, you all TRIED to strengthen more. The list of missed targets this season is pretty huge.

I reckon Martinez would be in the mix for MOTY as well if we end up 4th. And I'll admit that I wasn't sure (to say the least) about his appointment, I guess I'll have a lot of humble pie to eat come the end of the season...

Hey, you don't have to point out to me Lord Pulis' talents, I don't stop singing his praises!

But I still think Rodgers will get manager of the year if he wins the Prem. Frankly I'll be surprised if Pulis wins it even if Liverpool don't. Just so happens that awards like that favour the bigger teams.

Martinez is probably third behind Pulis and Rodgers, a little way behind. Martinez has been fantastic but Rodgers has taken Liverpool to new levels and Pulis necromancered us hard.
