Liverpool have spent very poorly. Almost whole team was there before Rodgers took over and all of his signings are average to poor.

Also it shows ManUtd don't reply on selling players. They signed players for long term rather than to sell for profit.

It also shows United are in a different world to Liverpool when it comes to buying players, yet they had similar success in that time period

Yeah, but that period also includes the disastrous Moyes season, which was more of a one-off. If you exclude that, the record is a lot better.

And so it should be with the money spent and the stature of Man Utd... Liverpool and United are competing on history alone when in reality LFC are a long way behind (or should be) at this moment

They didn't have similar success at all.

It shows Liverpool have squandered lot of money buying players like Borini, Balotelli.

Average league positions wise since Rodgers came in, there is not much in it.

They have. But they also have to target a much harder market due to financial restraints/FSG transfer policy and the lack of continued success the past 5-10 years

Liverpool cannot go and pay 60million for a player and if that fails, still go and pay 30mil for the next best option

In that period ManUtd won Premier league title, qualified to KOs of CL. It's anywhere near only because of Moyes and for the first time there was change of manager at ManUtd.

Doesn't matter which market you re targeting, you haven't done proper homework. There are teams like Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla who have spent lesser money and achieved better results. It's not like Liverpool have financial difficulty to pay 10-20 Million for a player.

It could have been spent wiser, that much is obvious... But there are many reasons alongside simply poor choices in players

What reasons? Buying from a Premier Club means you have to over pay a lot, that should be for the clubs struggling to fill home grown quota. For Liverpool there isn't a problem to sign players from other leagues where prices are normal.

Just look through the past 50 pages if you're that fussed, it's been discussed over and over

Fussed? Nope. I was replying to how net spend was used as a defense for failed transfers and squandering so much money.

We have spent poorly, that has never been in question... But the net spend was simply shown to see the obvious difference between the top sides

Real Madrid have net spend of 20 Million whereas Atletico have net spend of 30 Million. Does that show difference between top sides? No. It shows Real Madrid had more sellable assets.

Also flaw with net spend is one manager gets credit for someone else's good work. For example Dalglish got lucky with 50 Million deal for Torres when it was Benetiz who signed him. Similarly Rodgers benefited from Dalglish signing (Suarez)

Exactly. Also good example is the figure which is shown around that Chelsea have really low net spend for what last 3 years. Take one or two years more to it and the figure is completely different as they were stockpiling with players to counter the FFP.

Man Utd have had a **** of a lot more success the last three seasons. You can't just compare average league position as it really doesn't tell you anything considering United have won the league within that time. They have also done a lot better in the champions league than we have in that time. If all things were considered it would show we are way off the mark. FSG should be giving us more money to invest in the squad but we could have done a lot better with the money we had.

So both have an average bigger net spend than Liverpool who have a considerably weaker squad

Liverpool are not going to ever compete with an average net spend of 15mil when the likes of United/City and Chelsea and splash whatever money they basically want

I haven't checked but I'm guessing Atletico Madrid have lower net spend and lower wages than Liverpool and they have done fantastically well in La Liga, CL and Europa in last 3-4 years, same with Dortmund.

thank you. net spend is a poor excuse to cover our failings in the transfer. you could argue wages yes but you dont have to spend top dollar to get a good player. even so having a good player doesnt mean youll win the league. look at dimaria etc... in the summer we could have gotten depay heung min son etc... who would have improved our squad. yet we squandered it on bulk buying wingers and attacking mids like there was a 50% off sale. look at chelsea identified what they needed and got it. all we needed was to identify suarez replacement when every man and his dog knew he was leaving in the summer, instead we made needless purchases.

how we lost 4th this season to a poor united team i dont not know... well i do but still.
