It's a Liverpool squad that lack natural leaders but in Henderson you have a player vital to our team that is as hard-working and committed as they come

A captain should set an example to the rest of the squad and whilst his leadership skills will need to improve, the rest of his game is perfectly suited to a captaincy role

Couldn't lead him self out of a paper bag.

Skrtel is the only stand out candidate IMO considering I'm against giving newbies the armband from the off or else Milner would be in the mix. Pity Toures not still playing regularly or e;else it wouldn't even be a debate.

Not all captain's are the Roy Keane type... Barring Skrtel, I dont think there is another viable option

@skysports_bryan We're told Nathaniel Clyne to Liverpool deal is worth £12.5m. £10m up front with add-ons. 5-year deal. #SSNHQ @VinnOConnor

I swear communication is vital for a leader, i guess that rules skrtel out...

Adam Bogdan, only kidding. I guess James Milner experienced, one trophies not many options tbh.

I personally dont think a new player deserves to be in contention for the captaincy but that's just me

Not just you Marshall.

I'm with M dilakh, I've never been a big fan of given a new signing the armband straight away. Aside from the fact they have enough on settling into a new club to begin with; by doing that you're running the risk of unsettling the dressing room and those that have been there far longer. The captaincy should be earned. Not a right.

I completely agree Milner would be a viable candidate were it not for the fact he's a newbie. And you know I share your reservations on Skrtel. But for this season at least, he's desperately needed back there as there's little else, And as he's just about the most senior vet. left, he'd be who I gave the captaincy to this year. Toure would of been ideal, but he's not going to be a regular starter. After that you're really struggling. Not many viable options at all as you noted. Can? Hopefully down the line. But he's nowhere near ready yet. ****, the way he dropped off, he's not a guaranteed starter right now. Sakho? Possibly, he has every attribute to be a Ronnie Yeats/ Tommy Smith type centre half/ captain. But let's get him fully settled first. He's still VERY up and down and has enough on working on his own game without the added pressure.

I don't see anyone else other than Skrtel. But if we seriously go in with Henderson now Gerrard's influence is no longer here then I fear that's Rodgers just hammering another nail into his coffin.

And that lid is all but closed already.

Im surprised no ones mentioned Adam "how many cruyff turns can i do" lallana. He seems like a leader in the dressing room. anyway i think we will have to agree to disagree with the skrtel issue otherwise we will be going round in circles. It will most likely go to hendo anyway and he is probably the best option.

I sincerely hope Lallana doesn't get cast to one side with the Fermino and Milner additions.

He was playing catch up all last year with his fitness having missed the all important pre-season, and I'm real curious to see just what we have there with a full pre-season behind him entering the year on the same level as everyone else. As disappointing as he was, and as unconventional a style as he has; he did flash at times to suggest he could be a player.

Be a travesty after dropping nigh on £ 25 million to give up this early. And by that I mean for him to become a bit-part squad player.

We aren't City or Chelsea. We can't just write that amount of money off.

I feel he is just trying to hard, but when on form he is an excellent player, two footed and can dribble as good as anyone. It will be a make or break season for him imo.

If we wanted Clyne and made a bid he would of joined, there was interest but it never went any further then that.

He said he wanted Champions League football, if he had a choice he was only going to United out of the two, but he never had it, pesonally if you look at his stats from past season he looked less impressive than Valencia, so in a sense can see why we never made our interest firm by making a bid.

Im surprised they didn't.. Despite an improvement from Valencia, Clyne is an upgrade

For the long term yes, but Valencia does a decent job.

After thinking about it for a while it's probably because we don't need another young-ish fullback, we've already got them with the likes of Rafael and Varela. (Though surprisingly Janko has just left, expected him to have a chance).

Probably after someone with more experience I imagine.
