Well, think of it this way, lads, there's no way Balotelli can play worse.

Pool good for 15-18 mins then the press eased and sloppy defending took over. Pool had couple decent chances on the break. Ballo was poor! Good job Madrid have El Classico on Sat, was in 1st gear all second half.

I think the word scapegoat comes to mind again.

Did he do anything more or less than any player out there for Liverpool? Possibly only a few but i do feel his name and reputation dictates how people judge him

You might be forgetting his overall demeanour and attitude too. :p

No mate im only judging him on his performances, don't care about him personally. Said other players played poor in separate post mate.

Must say i feel a little sorry for Balotelli being a scapegoat here. He is a player Mourinho called "unmanagable" yet Rodgers's ego got in the way and he thought he could turn the lad around. They had as good as signed Loic Remy but pulled out because Balotelli (6 million and far bigger wages more) became available. Balotelli has been poor yes but he is not Liverpool's biggest problem.

Its nothing to do with Ego, the lad is a talent and most people agreed it was a gamble worth taking

It has been 10 games in which the whole team has played poorly and we know Balotelli cannot play as a lone striker... People should judge him when Sturridge is back or at the end of the season

Yeah but why do that when you can just pin all the blame on him and pretend that your frontline is just as good as last year, Lovren is a world class defender, Rodgers isn't a little out of his depth at this level and that your midfield is doing just fine when it comes to screening the back four?

Exactly, the problems are much deeper rooted than simply Balotelli. We were effective due to the way we played last season and with Sturridge injured, Suarez sold and no replacement signed in that mould (High work rate, pressing, hassling ETC) we don't have the defensive stability to cover that

However, saying all of that we are ahead of all of our main rivals in the Premier League and are in contention to qualify from the Champions League group stages - It's not all doom and gloom but people are comparing it to last season which, even with Suarez, I doubt would happen again

Some of the expectations are insane. I mean come on: you've sold Suarez. Yes you've improved the squad with that money but you've still lost a completely world class player. Pretty much every other contender for the top 4 has either got stronger or stayed the same. Doesn't take a genius to work out that this wasn't going to be another top 2 season.

The most insane thing of all is how people are pushing Balotelli already. He's a classic example of a player that's easy to put on tilt, a term that doesn't get used a lot in football but is definitely applicable here. Slaughtering him this early is worst thing anyone could do if they want him to come close to playing at his full potential in a red shirt. It's mad that people thought he would come back in, eyes blazing with barely contained ambition, desperate to prove himself and ready to ignore any obstacles in his way.

I think Rodgers believe he can mentor troubled souls, which yes is good he believes in himself but also quite big headed in some quarters when better managers have tried and failed.

People need to leave Mario alone. Wait until Sturridge is back and they're banging more goals in than the SAS did last season and you'll all be wanking yourselves off and saying you always had faith.

The earliest you can judge someone is at the end of their first season. The criticism he's getting when were 10 games in is ridiculous. I thought he actually played okay against a very good madrid defence.

Just me or did he show a bit of pace on the right when he went on that little run?

Rodgers isn't big headed. He's actually down to earth... unlike some managers. Cough cough.

I don't get it, why blame Balo? For all his craziness, its not like he's going to eat some magic beans and transform into a player that would actually fit into your sqad.

The blame is on Rodgers and on Rodgers alone. There's no denying it was a classic panic buy.

I think big headed and egotistical come under the same breath for me. Okay so maybe big headed is a bit OTT but my word to describe him would be naive.

Balotelli was the wrong player at the wrong time. He's just the opposite of what a Liverpool striker should be.

When Sturridge gets back, I'd imagine they'll both start the first game, then slowly it'll turn into just Sturridge starting.

Don't want to open the can here but Suarez said he used the word Negro so all the pathetic defense Liverpool fans used like he used the word Negrito looks laughable now.

Suárez insisted that his intent was not to insult Evra. “No, not at any time,” he said. “I just said: ‘Why, negro?’ and it was just like asking: ‘Why?’ These are things that footballers say, that happen all the time.”

Don't write Balotelli off yet. I'm more curious to see why Rodgers refuses to start Lambert or Borini as either a lone strike or as a partner to Mario. It clearly isn't working with Balotelli up front on his own so are the two other alternatives/ additions really THAT bad?

What are you going on about?! Suarez admitted saying "negro" once when the FA questioned him over the incident. Why are you randomly bringing something up from years ago? Moron.

"Negrito" is what Suso called Johnson on twitter.
