Not sure where the logic in putting your worst ball playing defender on a peno.

Sterling? Moreno? Toure?

Watched the penalty shootout with my gf. Lovren steps up for the fifth penalty.

Me: "What, Lovren!? Why!? He's gonna miss, just watch"

5 seconds later - "told you"

Whatever shred of confidence he had left, is now definitely gone. I don't understand why on earth you'd make a flop signing take the last penalty, Rodgers.

Ouch :/
Bad, bad miss from Lovren.
Everton's the only English team going through to the next round, unless Young Boys mount an amazing comeback.

Perhaps Sterling, Moreno ETC didn't want to take a penalty? Cant assume its all BR

not really arsed about the result to be honest with utd, spurs and more then likely arsenal having no europen football the breaks could do us well.

one thing i will say is rodgers caught the team selection wrong 2 up front when ur defending a 1 goal lend an taking so long to make a change after half time was cazy. still yet to win a game over two legs for us now which is pretty bad

We played terrible tonight, and it was one of the worst performances of the season.

No ambition, no plan and a lack ideas apart from hold onto a 0-0. We had 6 of our first 11 missing but it was so poor all round

A pretty fair result though, I have to say. The team that wanted it the most got it in the end. Liverpool were weak, and seemed to either lack a gameplan or simply not execute it. Sturridge and Sterling were especially weak today, but Sturridge is still coming back from a long-term injury and Sterling has been playing a lot lately, so a dip in form is understandable.

Have to agree that the breaks from midweek matches could do us good. For me it was always either an EL win or a 3rd/4th place that would take us to next year's CL, I just couldn't see us do both. And now we definitely won't do both. Let's just hope we pull off one. But playing 120 minutes in Turkey tonight won't have done us any favours as far as Sunday's match goes. If we lose against City on Anfield, we'll probably have to win against both Arsenal and Man United to get top 4.

Yup. Shootouts are tough, people are extremely exhausted, some get cramps, had to finish the game with injury because there was no subs etc.

Awful performance today. Some of our players must realize that they aren't so big star's as they think they are(yet).

I like Lovren a little bit more after today's miss. YNWA Lovren.

When the game reaches at the shootout and the game it's important, the manager asks the players he wants to take the penalties, are you ok? can you take a penalty? Some are way too anxious and say no i can't. so he goes on his next option until someones says yes. Maybe he asked them they were too anxious and scared and either said no or he saw the anxious faces and decided to choose someone that seemed not so anxious...

the one player who pist me of the most was sturridge what a greedy selfish ****** he is people go on about balotellis attitude but sturridge is just as bad if not worse for me

I like him even less. Sure, anyone can miss a penalty, but his miss was pretty awful. I seriously doubt he was high on confidence when stepping up, so why did he? If someone said no - which is just speculation - he should be the first to say no. I want him to succeed of course, but I just don't see it happening any time soon. He's been a dreadful signing.

Great finish by Henderson. City will never learn, 2 up top against quality oppo does not work! Kompany is so poor since the end of last season.
