Everything doesn't go out of the window on derby day - it certainly helps but form and confidence is a big factor usually

Things may change in the summer, but i honestly would not give Sterling 150k in wages. I would rather cash-in for 40-60million because as things stand, although he is one of our best players, it is not a Torres or a Suarez type of departure

For what he has contributed it is pure greed

easy to say that but replace him with who that is the thing if we could get depay and another top player for the money we get for sterling id sell him in the morning.

if we get an 60£ m offer or over for sterling definitely worth selling him. but in no way spend the 35£ of them to buy walcot. his career is declining and he is performing worse every year.. i don't think he can help us. we have good young players coming out. I think the money should be invested in a striker that will score at least 20+ goals. i don't who will be but with a 40£+ offer we can get anyone we want.

No we can't, not even close. Just take Sanchez as an example, he was for sale and we were considered frontrunners for his signature. But instead we (reportedly) ended up in a neverending negotiation about pennies, and meanwhile Arsenal came along and snatched him to London. Liverpool as a city has nowhere near the same appeal as London to foreigners. And that's just the geographical concern, to which you can add the monetary. If we can't - or won't - offer Sterling the wages he demands, then what makes you think we can - or will - offer them to another top player? Not to mention the fact that any transfer has to go through the transfer committee, and of course get Rodgers' approval.

But it would be worth remembering that we're not in a position to get anyone we want if we do sell him. In my opinion he's too greedy, and we shouldn't cave to his demands. But we should definitely try to negotiate a deal, and I'm convinced we will do exactly that. Whether we'll succeed or not, is impossible to say. But if we get CL qualification, I think we will. If we don't, it'll be hard.

The thing is, £100k isn't what it was 10 or even 5 years ago. Yes of course, it's still a ridiculous amount of money, but ridiculous is what modern football is all about when it comes to the money involved. And if we can't - or won't - compete in that regard, we will never get where we want to be. I don't know who the best paid teenagers/20-year-olds are, and I'm too lazy to google it atm. But it would be interesting to see how many are above £100k p/w.

I read somewhere that Lucas Moura is on 150k and Verrati was on 110k and Kovacic was on about 80k and Jese at Madrid was about the same with James Rodriguez is on about 150k a while back.

I think if the offer is good enough they will not be able to say no. Take for example falcao who went to to united without being in the UCL etc but United gave something like 12£ for a 1 year loan and 60£ m extra if they want to buy him next year. Higuain left Madrid to go to Napoli( not even close to Madrid's popularity or even Liverpool's) just because they offer 30£ to Madrid and good wage to Higuain. I believe that there are opportunities out there we can take advantage of. And because we lack of other incentives the only thing we can offer is money. However i don't think wallcot is the players we should invest or any other similar class players. we want someone better! I don't know who. but if we offer the requested money, 60% of players will be available. sport's after all is business at the moment. with the FFP around a big offer will be accepted easier by the rest of the teams because will allow them to make big offers too and get players we can't

I think he's talking about wages. If the club won't pay sterling x amount what makes you think they will offer x amount of wages to another player if you sell Sterling?

I'd imagine Liverpool would be more prepared to offer the wages to someone older who has accomplished more than Sterling in their career. I'd much rather give £150k to a player like Benzema who has turned his potential into ability than Sterling who has a very long way to go. But then again FSG are tight bastards so who knows lol
