Montoya would be a good alternative to Clyne.. I think our reluctance to pay 15mil shows what a limited budget we have to work with

Im unsure on Kovacic... Would love him but every bit of news is coming outside of England, hardly any English press are reporting it and the Echo is adamant we have not spoke to Inter

All seems a bit Gaston Ramirez to Liverpool-esque
They want 20-25 euros for him don't think well stump up the cash personally.

I like kovacic but if we sign him it seems to be following the general trend of LFC signings. Another player we don't need. I swear if we sign kovacic and that means the end of Lucas I will be one mad bunny. Lucas should be the first name on team sheet.

Cristiano Acconci@MrAcconci Kovacic: "I'm staying 100% at Inter"

So, for arguments sake, let's say the rumours on Clyne and Kovicevic (Sp?) are true.

We won't meet the asking price in a serious position of need. Yet we are trying everything (Skrtel thrown in included), to get yet another similar midfielder to what we already have.

Add to your stronger areas (whilst potentially further weakening an already weak area in the centre of your defence), whilst neglecting a seriously weak spot on your team.

SO modern day L'pool it's not even funny.

Maybe he can play in goal and they are finally addressing that glaring mess .....

I think if it is true Lucas or Borini will be included in the deal and perhaps 10-15mil
if we gave them borini perhaps. but lucas what is rodgers thinking only matic or maybe carrick is better than him in the league in what lucas does. he is so vital for us. ffs lfc getting ripped of again.

I rate Lucas, but he is left completely exposed with our style of play and he isn't quick and agile enough to cover the ground

His injuries have not helped him whatsoever but I would still be reluctant to let him go

my problem is that we have not been linked with a defensive midfielder at all. when if we are getting a midfielder than that type of midfielder has to be top priorty. our transfer strategy once again this summer is looking like its heading the wrong way. aka buying players that are not really needed. fingers crossed it changes as the summer goes along.

Like I said before, we came the closest we ever have to winning the Premier League when many said the side lacked a defensive midfielder...

And you could well argue the lack of one being able to pull everyone back into position and shut up shop ultimately cost us the title. Aside from the goals of Suarez and Sturridge masking a lot.

All relative.

And as aside, I hate the way players are bracketed into one specific role in the modern game. What happened to the Steve McMahon/ Peter Reid type midfielder that could get up and down the pitch, do his job defensively and assist up the other end? Sighs.

we lost the league because we conceded a **** tonne of goals, because rodgers tried to shoehorn stevie into a defensive holding role. when stevie doesnt have the positional sense to play there. no team wins the league conceding 50 plus...

We have supposedly turned down a £25M bid for Sterling from City

£25m + £5m add ons were looking for £50m apparently cant really see anyone paying that

Hey, if it get's a bidding war going and someone wants to pay well over the odds even if it falls short of the clubs valuation then all the better.

City are that desperate for home grown players they may well end up going there.

Montoya is definetly a good signing, Kovacic is a very good player, but we need other things, a defensive midfielder and quality striker, Kovacic would be a good signing if we first buy what we need

But then again, during that time, your DM deficiency was masked by Suarez at the other end. Not Sturridge, not Sterling but Suarez. Guy used to pull everyone out their positions, dribble around them and either score or set someone else up. Despite that, you leaked a lot of goals too.

Without him however, you more than ever need a defensive pivot. Especially if you're offloading Lucas. I think he's the only defensive-minded central midfielder you have..

He's called Aaron Ramsey...

Emre Can is, but he's being used in a back 3.
