His agent recently said its all but done.

I dont mean try and sign him now, he is off Atletico.. I meant a few weeks ago he was available and had a release clause before there ever was interest from Atletico

going against Milan would give me more confidence that Atletico, but for some reason we obviously were not interested

Martinez is not an FSG deal. 35m euro buyout clause and he is 28

Latest reports are we are after Rondon (25 and 15mil) and Bacca (28 and 20mil) though which is very similar to that of Martinez

Are you actually after them, or are they one of many spurious names linked to you?

Liverpool Echo reporting it, and saying we have scouts at the Copa America watching both.. They're usually quite good (but your guess is as good as mine)

Rondon makes sense, I'd put Bacca at the edge though. 20m would make him cheap enough to ignore no resale value.

Talking forwards .....

Ings was quiet the second half he got for the U-21's earlier.

But then it was a typically poor English display (which yet again begs the question why you'd take the ridiculous stance to leave all your top players at home?) with very little supply from the midfield. He was 'busy' as part of a two with Kane, but pretty ineffective. Should of had a penalty though like.

Ilori about to face the Italians.

Ive not seen much of Rondon apart from a few CL games but Bacca would be the better of the two for me.. Hard to see it happening but his release clause makes things a little easier

Bacca is the better target of the two imo, but I was talking from an FSG perspective

Well, after watching Ilori for the first time in a year, first impressions IMHO are he's a good ways short of being ready to step into Premier League action. Wasn't particularly impressed at all. Tidy on the ball but got caught out the wrong side of his man time and again defensive. And he was diving in and leaving himself exposed too.

Admittedly only 1 game but I can't see him being involved in the squad off of that but apparently he was better against England so who knows?

Was like that in qualifiers to.

Ta bud. Appreciated.
There is defo a player in there tbh! Will have a couple of good games then be ***** for a couple. Just inconsistent like most young players imo. Very good on the ball though, which should suit building from the back. Defending will get better, needs a championship loan imo to bring him on defensive wise and experience.

Yeah, as noted he looked tidy on the ball but his defensive positioning was poor. Which, even given his relative lack of experience, raises question marks given he's one of the older players at this level this tournament. Should have the basic defensive fundamentals down by now. Completely agree on an English loan this season. Then have a good look at hi this next pre-season and decide where we go as he'll be 23 at that point.

Not holding out much hope right now.

And not that it bothers me any, but probably will you, if the Italians find their shooting boots Wednesday they didn't have on tonight they'll lick England from the two games I've watched today.

Why do you say he is going to Atletico? They have just signed Vietto, they don't need another striker. Arsenal still seem to be favourites for Martinez from what I've seen

Just look at reports everywhere.. Atletico seems almost done. Vietto and Martinez in, Mandzukic out

May change but a the moment that's what it s looking like

Still don't foresee any real top class signings happening even after Sterlings gone.

More of the same of young potential and slightly better than what we have but nowhere near the required quality to get back to where we crave to be.

Hope I'm way off the mark there but it's the Boston way (along with this year seemingly being the BB sides turn as they've invested heavily in that); and with the ground and ongoing rumours about a sale, I doubt we get the investment we need at the top end.

More pressingly, the disgraceful situation of Rodgers staff been gutted and not replaced should be getting more examination.

I agree.

But tt depends what you class as a 'top class signing' ... We haven't made one of them for years and years and i would included Torres and Suarez in that (Highly rated but by no means an almost guaranteed success)
It will be more of the same, trying to find the next biggest thing who can contribute now which is one of the hardest things to do else everyone would be doing it

I completely agree the staff turnover has been embarrassing. It needed a change-up but coming to the end of June with no first team coaches or an assistant manager is worrying
