Not sure what all the downer is on Firmino. I have a Brazilian friend who regularly watches the brazilian leagues and keeps up with the brazilian players and he is raving about him. Yeah maybe a little overpriced but im really excited to see him play

We complain when we dont buy anyone, now were complaining when were buying an excellent player. only LFC fans....

Another excellent point! Show some faith in Ibe and Markovic, similar to what happened with Sterling, give them a run in the side as attacking wingers rather than wing backs, and see what happens! Trying to fit two 25m+ AMC signings (Lallana and Firmino) in the side, likely on the wings, along with our best player Coutinho, means these two are likely to miss out a lot of the time. And that's 20m wasted in Markovic's case, and massive talent wasted for both. Give them a chance, and sign a striker! I suspect Firmino might even end up playing as a striker...
If you play Firmino as a striker then Rodgers is a ******* idiot

Wouldn't you be inclined to invest in a defender or two now that you have Ings?

I can't see us buying another defender, other than a right back, which is clearly a priority, and hopefully we can bring in Clyne. Kolo, Skrtel, Sakho, Lovren, Ilori/Gomez means we have depth even if there is no one good enough to partner Sakho.

As for Ings, I'm impressed with his attitude but the fact is that when Sturridge is out we need a top striker who we can trust to score us goals, and Ings doesn't fit that description (yet). If at least two of Balotelli, Lambert and Borini move on, then we don't have the depth up top either. I don't think Origi is ready at all, and I'm not convinced he will ever be. Would love to be proven wrong though!

For those complaining that he plays in phils position. know that in the system that we play there is such a thing known as interchanging. when coutinho's getting marked out of the game he can easily interchange with firmino.

Rodgers has barely played with a traditional number 10 period.

Coutinho has consistently been played out of position and under utilised.

So heck knows where he'd put Fermino if he signs.

True, we can bleat all we want about how to play. but with rodgers i literally would not be surprised one bit to see him playing wingback. **** we played a box to box mid as a centrehalf/rightback for half the season.

Honestly, outside of Bacca the Europa Lge Final and Brazil this Copa America, I've never seen any of them play to judge. (Meaningless YouTube compilations not withstanding.).

Firminio certainly linked well with Phil the other night FWIW so I'll probably watch the rest of Brazil's games this tournament out of interest.

Rondons a bit like Benteke, in that he's just not that mobile. He's a target man like Benteke. Seen him have some good games, but chuck him infront of Coutinho, Firminho, Lallana et al, and he'll struggle. He won't get service.

He seems like a big lump upfront. another avoid, would rather bacca for the now so sinclair development isnt blocked.

Someone who wanted to win trophies?

It's not the same because United were actually in the mix for major titles, having won one two years ago. Liverpool's last major trophy was the FA cup in 06? Chelsea had just done the double two seasons before he joined.

In fact, we had done the double under Ancelloti in 09/10 season. Torres joined in January in the 10/11 season when we came very very close to winning the league again under Ancelloti and were still in the CL. So it's fair to argue that he did feel Chelsea were better built to win trophies than Liverpool

NOBODY had Chelsea down to do much of anything in Europe in 2011/12. That was as much out of the blue as Istanbul was for us Benitez's first season in '05. We won the League Cup and should have beaten a Chelsea side, with Torres unused on the bench, we completely dominated in the Cup Final.

When he jumped ship, after a change of ownership, manager and immediate big signing to partner him; Chelsea were FAR from a banker for trophy's and not that much more of a prospect all told at that time than ourselves.

But hey, he got a whopping three Cups out of his move (not that he played much of a part in the major 2 of them) and a shed load more money so I'm sure that makes it all worth while.

Regardless of whether you feel the club was at fault/ Torres was right et all, it's a complete fallacy that Chelsea offered him that greater chance of trophies. Chelsea were the only club seriously in for him with the stupid money in wages is more the top and bottom of it.

We actually still could be considered a banker for trophy' when he joined. As I said, he joined in January of 10/11 season in which we were one game away from winning the league and still very much in the mix for the CL. The very next summer we got players like Mata into the door. The only reason we ****** up in the league for several reasons thereafter was a succession of poor managerial appointments (till Benitez) and weak-ish squad which we also addressed after we won CL by adding Hazard, Oscar etc.

So really throughout his time at Chelsea, it is fair to say he was at a club that showed ambition in the transfer market and bought good players. Plus he won trophies. Obviously his time at Chelsea was nowhere near a success and he probably does regard his time at LFC more fondly but he got what he came here for

Confirmed: Liverpool sign Roberto Firmino for £28.4 million

Well played LFC, Well played!

We can go around all day on that which then becomes subjective and never ending as we both disagree and can put compelling cases up either way; but I have to pull that one ..... one game away from winning the league in 2010/11?

Gotta' nark Utd that another strong target has gone and this time to their major rivals.

Unless it's now getting spun they weren't ever really interested in him to begin with. ;)

Sounds a lot better financially £ 21 million now. And Phil will be happy.

Be interesting to see where Rodgers looks to play them.

Very impressed we managed to get this done, real ambition at last! Hopefully we can find a way to still get our priority positions sorted, and fit them all in the same side

And how quickly we moved to complete the deal is fantastic, a real positive. It shows that attitudes have changed towards the transfer window

We haven't entered July yet and I would say there are only another 2 perhaps 3 signings we will make.. Clyne and Bacca and I will be over the moon
