Home grown too.

Never understand the revulsion in the Utd thread when he was mooted for them before Schniderlin. He's as solid as they come in the job he does. Lots of top flight and International experience. Been at some big clubs. Decent on the ball. And not gonna' cost you an arm and a leg.

I really don't understand people baulking at him save for him not being a flashy in name.

Thats because schneiderlin is twice the player song is. Song is not a defensive midfield player because just like we tried to shoehorn gerrard there, he doesnt have the discipline to play as a def mid. I have watched song many a times and he is not a defensive midfield player at all. What we need is someone who will sit and be able too pass the ball quickly up the field. We just got rid of the problems gerrard brought when we played him as a def mid why would we want to bring it back with song.

Heres a thought instead of spending millions in fees and wages on a lucas heres a thought. In our youth system we have an outstanding def mid who whenever i have watched him has stood out heads and shoulders. Chirivella. Valencia were incredibely ****** when we poached him they said he was the best youth player they have had for a long time.

I like Chirivella, but you would be ripping Rodgers to shreds if he tried to play him there all season, believe that.

Then again, we could sign Busquets and you would rip Rodgers to shreds :P

LOOL i wouldnt trust me the kid is outstanding i just feel all the hardwork that rafa put in with the academy could go to waste if were not careful with our spending. Look at sinclair he wont sign a contract because he feels he wont get a chance what with ings now the backup striker. It could go all **** up if lfc are not careful.

The kid is good at youth level - If he was as brilliant as you're making out he would be in our first team already

It's so easy to say promote youth but if the season was anything like last year you would be one of the first to moan about the lack of quality in our squad

I personally think you're being ridiculously hard on Song I'd happily take him without thinking twice but each to their own.

As for a youngster, you have one in Can. Why would you want to promote another? He just needs to add some discipline which will only come with having a set position.

Its not easy to promot youth managers are under intense pressure to get results so the likelyhood of them throwing an untested yet talented kid in the first team is null. Which is one of the main reason why englands national team will suffer. You only have to see how bilic took a risk and played that 16 yr old and he had ozil in his back pocket. Kids will never improve if they are stuck in reserves during the key development years of 19-22. Even a loan move sometimes doesnt help, we will never know if chirivella is good enough if he doesnt play. Simples.

I said Can can play their (Lol), but that would be stupid to make it his permanant position as the kid wil waste his talent. Chirivella is a natural DM so it would make sense to also have him as backup. Secondly im not being hard on song, i personally think he is excellent if played alongside a sitting midfielder but to have song on his own playing def mid would be suicidel as he is ill disciplined to play that role. Ive watched him enough times to see that.

Again, it's not 'simples' in this case as you have Can.

I'd only want a replacement for Lucas to add experience there in the position. But Can should be the one getting serious minutes and experience.

*Edit* Seen the second post. I disagree that it would waste his talents playing there. Yeah, he's our best box-to-box midfielder. But he's not going to drop Henderson so fitting Can in as the holding guy would be the perfect compromise.

You set up a central three of Can, Milner and Henderson, or a four with Phil heading the diamond; and I'll happily take on anything else in that area in the Country.

So we play the kid in a position that he isnt suitable for. Didn't we try that last season when we played him at rightback then at centrehalf. Remind me how that went again...

What makes you think he's not suited to the position? All he lack's, which he'll get through experience, is the discipline to keep his position. He reads the game fantastically. Solid in the tackle. Has a great passing range on him and one heck of a web when he does break forward.

Playing at the back is one thing but I'd have zero concern that he'd adapt to any central midfield role you put him in.

I have no qualms that he could learn the role, but it isnt as easy as you make it. The role would have him not breaking forward at all. Is he mature enough to do that i dont think he is yet. So what your saying is we teach Can too play a role that is hard to master hence the lack of top quality def mids in the world. That imo would be a waste of his talent. I would like to think lessons were learnt from trying to shoehorn gerrard in the role.

Easy to say look at Oxford and say he's going to be a star.

Jack Robinson against Arsenal, played amazing, not really the deal now is he?

Damien Plessis, brilliant in his first few games, again where is he?

Neil Mellor banged a few in, some had big hopes

Doesn't always work out, heck look at the best young player in the world, Januzaj...

Januzaj will be successful but some were comparing him to Sterling, I think we've seen the difference.

I wouldn't be surprised if Reece Oxford is playing in the championship in 4 years time.

Hopefully the kid makes it, but you're judging him on one game

EDIT: "The best young player in the worlds, Januzaj" Not my actual beliefs :P

I didnt say judge him after one game i was using him as proof that youth players need a chance. We wont know if a young player is good enough if they dont get games.

So how are you getting Can a game?

Dropping Henderson?

Which begs the question and even you would agree with me. Apart from experience what was the point of buying a similair player to hendo in milner. Im not bashing milner but we saw how Can changed the game yesterday as it allowed hendo to go further up. Its one game so i wont judge milner and hendo in midfield but from yesterdays game it didnt work too well.

Henderson wouldn't be a part of our central midfield where it up to me so you're asking the wrong guy.

It's really hard to speak to you about this because you're a Rodgers hater,

The scenario, first game of the season. Liverpool are away to Stoke, and this young lads playing. He ***** up and cant deal with the game, we lose 1-0.

"Rodgers is an idiot for playing him"

We won the game we lost 6-1 last season and somehow people are still moaning about the way our manager does things.

West Ham thought they would lose yesterday, well predicted to. Didn't have much to lose, we do.

Our expectations are higher than West Hams.

You assume im a rodgers hater because i point out his flaws, i will give him credit when credit is due. e.g I think his is an excellent coach that has improved the players technical abilites vastly. However i dont think he is cut out to be a manager of a top club because he is too stubborn. How the **** is that being a hater, I got hounded last season when i pointed out rodgers flaws yet we all saw how that turned out. If chirivella did **** up against stoke i wouldnt berate rodgers in fact i woulf applaud him because he had guts too through a talented kid at the deep end. Your going to expect ups and downs with youth players because they are still learning.
