Mignolet was solid today, Milner not so much. Origi ok, Coutinho not at his best.

But Sakho was a beast. A friend of mine just asked me "what's up with Sakho and his Matrix passes?" haha. It's true though, every time he passes the ball his body is at 45 degrees like he's dodging bullets.

He's unorthodox as **** but it works.

Yeah Coutinho wasn't on the ball today but he's the type of player that I'd struggle to take off knowing what he can produce out of nowhere. Similar to Lui Garcia back in the day.

Not read through the thread yet but mightly impressed by today's first outing. When was the last time we looked as organised, solid and hard working as that? If he can get that from three days work, what will he do the next time down here in two more weeks at Chelsea? If we'd of had any semblance of a striker we could well of won that. Sakho, Skrtel and Lucas were outstanding. Lallana showed why he won't last as he can't go more than 60/70 minutes. Mingolet made some great saves. And it wasn't as if Tottenham ripped through us. They came off mistakes and bounces off our players. Not a bad performance out there. Yeah, the quality could of been better. But that was with 8 missing. no forwards, (Origi tried but he's too lightweight and is what he is); and 3 days work with the full squad.

Much rather a game like that were you can see serious positives rather than playing utter wank and scrapping a 1-0 win. The only down side was the Klopp songs. The 'live is life' was sung too fast. And the agadoo one is just ***** and highly embarrassing.

All round a very good first game. Loved him stood the edge of the pitch most all game and then coming down with the players to thank us after.

Roll on Thursday. Just need a forward and watch out Kazan!

I agree there are positives, but another day we concede quite a few out there.. I don't think we were anymore solid than we have been but that's no surprise given 3 days training

Indeed, Liverpool were all over Tottenham initially but Spurs grew into the game over time. If Harry Kane was half the striker he was last season, spurs would have won this one

Seriously? You honestly didn't think we had a far better shape and looked far more organised? Aside from the tremendous work rate? The quality could of been better like. But we are down 8 players. And like I said above, the pleasing thing on 'Spurs chances were they came from either our mistakes or balls richochaying (so) to them. Not them cutting through us.

Shrugs. That's the general concensus if everyone back the pub after and on this train.

Guess we we all see things differently.

My god let us have some joy ffs

People are seriously worried about Liverpool under Klopp mate. Not specifically saying on here because I caren't be arsed with any debate. Just in general up and down the Country.

Take joy joy from that and let it wash over you. Today was a great start and step forward.

Last season he would of buried todays chances. Crazy world of football!

Yep.

I was happy with how Liverpool played, there were a lot of positives but Tottenham had some very, very good chances

We may have looked a little better, but we still conceded the chances that should have lost us the game

As said above, there were plenty of positives and it was a good display, but had Harry Kane had his finishing boots on we would have lost that game

I'm not really basing anything on an attacking point as we were missing the majority of it, but our pressing and desire was ALOT better

Yeah it was a decent showing, nothing more. Find it bizarre how saying that translates into people being scared now Klopp is there. Better managers than Klopp have managed in the prem. A decent showing is a decent showing. Started well, but pressing faded, (which happens under Klopp) and Spurs should have beaten you when it did. Liverpool will have to learn quickly to do better when they have to drop off the press, because Kane should have buried you quite frankly, and other teams will.

Agreed. That would be a bizarre take. But as no-one here has done that, I presume you've seen it elsewhere.

The pressing game naturally had a dip being as he's had them as a full group for a mere three days, but it picked up again the back end which was a great early sign of their fitness and as the following shows, we outran/ worked a Tottenham side that did that to most all their opponents last season and have done to everyone this. Until today:

Not bad for a side new to this who've had three days work at it huh? Shudder to think how much stronger late in games they'll be over the league when they're fully upto his required level of fitness.

Naturally we have to improve. In all aspects. We couldn't of gotten much lower to what he inherited. But he's gotten an organised, solid, fantastically committed group together in just three days of working with them collectively. That can only bode well going forward. Yeah, Mingolet was forced into more action than Loris and made a couple of top draw saves. But that wasn't down to Tottenham playing through us which was another positive to take. Some lucky breaks. Some bad defending. Which can be rectified and looked a **** of a lot better than it has in MANY a match overall.

And you don't come any closer to winning it than hitting the woodwork. So swings and roundabouts. Origi is a tad lower on that, we have a very solid away win. Kane scores, we don't. We have a striker out there, you can make the same argument that he'd of taken the chances we had.

Just about the perfect response to three days and a **** load of key absentees for a first game and a massive improvement in many areas to what went before. That can only get better by the game the more he works with them and the more they buy in. And when the injured front players return, there's every chance we'll be burying teams like you and Marshall are playing on Kane having not done today.

Appreciate the take. All views are welcome. As is the above counter.

Roll on Kazan Thursday to get the first win from the Klopp era.

Sakho, Skrtel and Lucas were outstanding.

Have to disagree with this. Typical Skrtel game in my opinion. Made some good clearances, blocks and whatever, but just about every one of the errors that led to a great opportunity for Spurs was from or involved Skrtel. The rest of the back 4 were impressive, especially Sakho, whilst Mignolet was amazing!

I can buy that on Skrtel's mistakes (I personally thought Milner was our worst player by a long chalk aside from his work rate. Although Phil was very average too); but by the same token, I'd say it was kind of what we expect from Mingolet on a good day. Great saves mixed in with abysmal distribution and dithering on balls back to him.

Pressing fading in and out is a normal thing, no team in the world can press for 90 minutes. Even Dortmund pressed in timed intervals.

I hear what you are saying about the woodwork, but you've been hitting the woodwork for years like that so I can't see it as either a positive or a negative.

Agree, and my point is when they stopped pressing they did not look good at all

and scouse, outrunning a team isnt the same as being the better side. Spurs outran us, and barring the opening 15 minutes, we were rarely troubled by them. You defintely could have been lower than he inherited, let's not overegg it. He's not suddenly started to work miracles in three days, or even close to it. You played slightly better than you have recently, but its not even the best you've played this season.
