U'18's just beat Utd 3-0 apparently. I know, but it's both Utd, which is always worth celebrating, :D; and after someone misguidedly argued on here recently we lagged well behind Chelsea, City and Utd at youth level, it's another reminder we actually don't.

This is worse than some Spurs fan on Redcafe using U21 results to prove Spurs have bright future.

Hey, see the guy who originally went down that road. Don't shoot the messenger.

IIRC Alcaraz made the point that Liverpool are lagging behind when it comes to academy. Even that's his point, using this result to prove otherwise is wrong.

Success of academy is how many players are graduated to first team and also for top level. I don't agree with Alcaraz though, IMO Liverpool have some very good young players but I wouldn't use one off results to prove that.

I you recalled correctly, his post was based on results. ;).

I wouldn't use results either. I know full well what we have, both at the club, and out on loan. (Or recently recalled.). Whether they develop into anything time will tell. But it's a very good crop at their respective age levels that holds up pretty well league wide when you look at other clubs prospects.

I was just messing with him was all.

You can have the best academy in the world but it means nothing if there is no clear plan for the youngsters to be transitioned into the first team. That means loan moves that actually suit them. I mean theres no point in sending a talented kid who likes to play football to a league 2 side that plays long ball. Then when he fails youve robbed the kid of a year of development.

Yeah, to all intents and purposes that's gonna' change massively going forward.

Won't mean the end of loaning players when the clear benefits there.(But I doubt we go down the foreign route now which defeats the object of them learning the English game to me.). But from day one he's been open about keeping your best youngsters together at the club for them to grow together and the coaches to work with them so they're ready to slot in if needed the first team.

Be interesting to see how it changes because U'21 footie isn't anything like regionalised lower leagues he's used to in Germany for ressi sides. The whole reserve structure, if you can even call it that now, is an ongoing mess in England.

Loans are not bad if planned properly. Playing in league 2 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> playing in U21s.

Like you said, it should be loans to the teams that suit them. Also at younger age it's not wrong to send kids to long ball teams. It will toughen them up. Experiencing every type of game at young age will make them learn game and also will make them to look the game from other dimension.

Billions are spent and see can't plan a proper U21 format. Useless ******. U21 league in England is beyond embarrassing.

I meant a team in league 2 that plays long ball. Was just using league 2 as an example, im not against sending players to league 2. There are plenty of teams in that league that play good football. However I disagree about sending a kid to a long ball team. It will just stunt his development because he wont get in the team at all because this style of football is completely alien to him.

Personally, I think it's more the age level.

Wouldn't want to be sending a 19/20 year old you hope to be then taking the next step into your squad to a team that doesn't play football.

But someone younger, it's not a bad grounding to experience the other side and hard work in becoming a pro.

One thing that should be brought in IMHO is a certain percentage they have to play. Obviously you can't pick an opposition managers side for him. But if they want to take a perceived better quality youngster, then it has to benefit the loaning club too, Taking players to fill out your squad depth shouldn't be allowed unless mutually agreed.

There are many young players who said how playing in a league game helped them to develop. U21, they are not under any pressure at all. Playing in lower league will toughen them up. I don't remember the youngster name, he said how playing in league format is so much different and help them to learn a lot as pressure for 3 points is massive.

Another problem with english football and the media is the needless buying for squad depth. Watching MOTD of the day last night it was like liverpool commited a cardinal sin because klopp decided to play the youths. I Lol'ed hard when murphy was practically begging for lallana to come on to get a goal or assist. The guy has prob got 1 goal in 50 games or something. Then the media complain young English players dont get a chance. XD

Wonder if anything will be said tonight on MOTD about the following teams making changes because they chose to. Not because they were forced to:

PL Team Changes FA Cup (from last PL game): B'mouth 11/ Stoke 9/ Everton 8/ MC/Nor/Sun/WH 7/ Arsenal 5/ Sou/Wat/WBA 4/ Palace 3.

It really was comical mate the bias from MOTD. I love murphy but lets be honest he doesn't have talk nonsense. Klopp stuck it to them during the post match interview though. Love the man, I really do.

Yeah, watched a vine of that last night. Told them straight on judging the kids and loved him at the end ..... 'Thanks for talking to us' ..... 'Yeah. Well, I have to!' Lol. Need to see this one before the game in a kitchen?

Good mate was going nuts over Shearer half time fair screaming apparently and all over how brilliant Exeter were? (Against the kids.). He is a ****. Brilliant player but a ***** analyst.

Agree with this. At least this is something I like with Van Gaal.

The funny thing is ojo came on instead of lallana and set up the equalizer. Now he probably has the same amount of assists as lallana all season. XD

First rumours in the national papers of Liverpool willing to sell Sturridge for around 25mill last night

Cant see it hadn't been coming if true

More pertinently who would pay anything like that for someone that's never frigging fit!

Don't see as he has much of any resale value right now.

I don't want us to sell him at all, he's the perfect striker for us and it would be an absolute nightmare if he found fitness and form for another club
