Such a shame these 2 teams will play again on Wednesday. Should have played against other teams so both teams would have had a decent chance of losing the game.

On the game, enjoyed it. Good open game with both teams going for win. Players were exhausted and Yaya could barely walk. Cruel way to lose the finals btw, playing 120 mins and then losing on penalties is just cruel for any team.

Pens must truly suck for goalkeepers when they're shot as good as City did. All the years of training and hard work, and you might as well walk from the goal because you can't do ****.

Loved Ballack's penalties. Used to smash them to the corners.

To be fair to mignolet he did dive well in all of them.

I find it odd that Milner didn't take a penalty earlier. Would have put him above Lucas and Lallana

That's kind of my point. Even if he guesses right he can't do ****. Reminded me a lot of Netherlands vs Costa Rica at the World Cup. Navas played the game of his life and pulled of like 20 saves, but during pens he might as well have walked off, cause they were impossible to defend.

They really ought to change pens to another formula where goalkeeper isn't a helpless bystander unless a shooter makes a mistake.

I knew that was your point. I just had to say something good about mignolet. :D

Bitterly disappointing final outcome but it's one of those things once you get to a penalty shoot-out...

Thought Lucas was outstanding, Mignolet made a right ****-up for their goal but made some important saves and our front three didn't contribute enough.

We can all criticise and guess when it comes to penalties but no blame can be attached - poor penalties from us but these things happen.

Onwards and upwards

It's always a lottery in the shootout, Caballero made a couple of great saves. We did really well to make it so far, the sky is the limit now!

Normally when it goes to a penalty shoot out I immediately turn off the radio/tv. If I had to endure a shoot out and lose by one goal I'd take up heavy drinking

Oh yeah, and two good things to come from the performance.

Firstly, Sturridge made it through 120 minutes!

Secondly, Sterling still can't finish and missed a tap in :P

We have a ridiculous penalty record that is second to none. 14- 4 I believe in competitive games. Including shoot-outs to win 2 European Cup finals, an FA Cup final and 2 previous League Cup finals. LOVE penalty shoot-outs. It's what L'pool do. We get to penalties, and you ALWAYS believe we'll win. Never subscribed to the 'it's a lottery' notion or it's a 'cruel way' to lose. It's a solid test of nerve and you either have it or don't. And today we didn't with the most abysmal set of spot-kicks I've ever seen from us. (Coutinho ..... Just WTF was that lad? Seriously. WTF was THAT?). And I've seen 16 of those 18 shoot-outs live. So absolutely NO complaints at losing that way. City held their nerve and we completely bottled it. (Like £terling did the game but he has a winners medal and we don't so we'll leave that.).

City fully deserved it overall. We were pretty darn abysmal. When your first serious shot on target is the equalising goal, 7 minutes from time ,in a Cup Final; you know you've been poor. Mingolet made some top draw saves. But they matter little when he makes such a monumental balls up as the goal. Please God let this be his last season. Believe it was a stonewall penalty for City. Not sure on the Moreno one. Need to see some highlights. But Oliver was abysmal all game. Just HOW many fouls did Fernando and Kompany get away with before they finally got the token bookings? Thought Lucas was our MOTM by a long chalk. Midfield absolutely overrun for most the game and very little up front.(Arguably Sturridge's poorest game in a L'pool shirt. Would of had him off.). Just so, so disappointing that City have a clown in goal (by City fans own ready admission) that we failed to test much of anything. Massive opportunity blown.

Bitterly disappointed because after riding our luck like we did to then drag ourselves into the extra half hour with the equaliser, like I say you then expect L'pool to win the shoot-out because it's what we do. But massive congratulations to City. Fully deserved win on major chances created.

So now we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves down, and get ready for City again Wednesday and the mega Europa tie against their Salford neighbours.

..... I am not keen on referee complaining but this has to be a red card doesn't it?

Oliver was Oliver and terrible all day. It appeared he was doing the modern day final thing of not wanting to book players for what were deserved bookings and run the risk of they then being sent off. Lenient officiating in a showpiece to keep it flowing and not have controversy. Hate when refs do that just because it's a major final and shy away from the big decisions.

Believe it or not, I didn't think we were that bad at all... I feel we managed the game quite well and Klopp took into account it was a cup final.

The first half little really happened, but we dominated possession for long periods even though City and Kompany in particular were very good defensively.

It took a Mignolet balls up for us to have to be more adventurous and take chances... The majority of their really good chances came about because we had to push forward. In extra time there only looked one winner until the nervy last few minutes before pens

The one criticism of us would be our attacking play in the final play was poor - it was a shame that Firmino, Coutinho or Sturridge couldn't have a big impact

Looking back, considering we played around 50-60 minutes with a back 4 of Clyne, Toure, Lucas, Milner, I think we did fantastically well to even take it to penalties.

Im hoping Lucas will be like Mascherano. He was fantastic at the back. I hope he keeps up that kind of performances.

As things stand he is probably our best CB, haha.
