At least the Europa place for the league cup (presuming City are top 4) now drops down the league so there is that.

That HAS to be about protecting our investment and making sure we get the most we can for someone who'd be in the last 18 months of his previous contract this summer.

I just can't see that he sees him as a solid option going forward. ****, he's seen enough games first hand where the 'keepers thrown it away and cost him dear. The latest example being yesterday. Can't even say he played well, which you should be saying as he made at least three top draw saves; when he makes such a monumental, fundamental error as he did for the goal that was SO costly. The type of error we've consistently seen time and time again that undoes anything good he does.

Surely he's gone the summer? SURELY? If he's here next year, I, like most everyone else, will be very disappointed in the manager.

I wouldn't mind him as a back-up goalkeeper if somebody doesn't come to buy him - it's whether he'll be happy doing that though

Regardless of Mingolet, can you afford his wages as that? First team salaried player sat on the bench getting little to no game time?

Why was Bogdan on the bench yesterday anyone?

Horrible, Horrible final to watch for me, I thought it had 'Pool written all over it by the way the game was going, how it got to pens i'll never know, we should have bagged 4 at least. I thought Can and Lucas were imminence, Can picking the ball up in the DMC slot and just bypassing our mid with one pass time and time again had me screaming at Yaya for abut 120 mins.. Silva was wasted in that slot for getting pressure on Can. (looked classy as **** in the role).

and no our overknackered teams get to do it all again and chase Europe.. ****. :)

Honestly, I'd like to see us give all the promising kids a run out Wednesday, mix them up with the lads that didn't play yesterday and get the important guys rested for Utd.

Congratulations mate. Can't really complain with the loss as bitterly disappointing as it is.

As long as we DONT play Demichelis i'm happy, or kids did really well without him and Will (but redeemed) we've a few injjuries coming back Bony/Magala/Zaba should we should be a decent mix of 2nd string and kids i think.

If somebody wants him and we can get another goalkeeper in then no problem, but I think he would be a decent back-up purely on ability

The thing is, when Mignolet got that contract, that wasn't protectionism, Klopp genuinely wants him to stay. whether that will change by end of season is another thing.

Struggle to believe he's ever truly believed that regardless of what's he's said publicly. Everyone had the shock and anger when it was announced, but when that calms and you look at it protecting themselves is the only explanation that makes any semblance of sense.

Klopp doesn't play that game, had the same thing with Weidenfeller at Dortmund.

Well, we'll see going forward but I struggle to buy he truly believed he was good enough after this year after seeing him make costly mistake after costly mistake first hand before he got the extension.

If he is here starting next season then I honestly don't know what's going on. But I know like the majority I won't be happy about it to say the least. Yesterday's 'Mingolet mistake costs L'pool' is something that's been a constant for going on four years now and it's past worn thin that's nothing's been done about it.

*Edit* That was one of the things I'd tried rationalise as regards the contract extension. That maybe he looked on it like Dortmund that he could get by with an average 'keeper and prioritise surrounding him with bigger, better players but yesterday again showed he's way too much of a liability to even get away with that. We should be talking about him having a great game with at least 3 top draw saves. Instead, that's all undone by letting in a shot through him me Ma would of made a better fist at stopping.

This situation has exact parallels with Wiedenfeller, and so far he has done the same thing. whether than changes is one thing. But that contract will have been offered in genuine faith.
 
I feel sorry for Mignolet. He's clearly not good enough but this constant criticism of him can't be doing him any good.

Well, not exactly the same thing. Weidenfeller was actually pretty **** good in his time, he just got old.
