If you are from, or still live in, this City, the Derby is the one game, home and away, you want to win more than
ANY other every year. The nagging dread of going into work Monday, morning having lost at home to them, something a whole generation of Blues have never seen happen at Anfield in front of fans (The farcical, jarg COVID non-season no match-going fan ever remembers doesn’t count!), is the absolute worst football horror I could imagine. I’d rather lose to Utd after the break than suffer that nightmare. Gods honest. And I get why the World wide fanbase would find that mad given everything the Utd rivalry entails. But to us, it’s the Ev as you have to live and work among them on the daily.
Thankfully, L’pool stood tall, showed more desire and determination, along with their ridiculous fitness levels (This was the season’s first tough 3-game week after all. Which the Ev had been resting up through), to have the perfect ending to a perfect week.
Before we get In to the game, massive props to all the Blues in the ground for their part in the impeccable period of applause for Bobby Graham and Joey Jones. God rest.

Thank you Blues. Sincerely. To have that followed by, as is becoming the norm with any Reds passing (player, manager or supporter), by their respective banners paraded in front of the Kop, was special. Not least well arguably the most famous football banner of them all- ‘
JOEY ATE THE FROGS LEGS MADE THE SWISS ROLL NOW HES MUNCHING GLADBACH’

A lot to like yesterday from a typically tight and tense Derby. (If not as frenetic and fierce as past occasions.).
I loved that Arne had no qualms flipping 4 players to highlight our ridiculous, top quality, strength-in-depth. To have £271 million worth of recently purchased talent, and best in class talent at that in Frimpong, Isak and Wirtz, on the bench, in one of our most important and intense games of the season ….. I can’t think of any club on the planet that could currently do that.

It just adds to the fact we are no longer in the days of best XI’s. But rather now, the days of the best super squads. Now he has the full trust in what he inherited, along with his own signings, it’s brilliant to see Slot take each game on an individual basis and rotate freely for that match alone. Regardless of the standard of opposition or magnitude of game. We are in it to complete football and win all 4 this year. So
every player in the squad rotating and staying fresh is a necessity.
Most of our football in the first half was superb. And Everton had absolutely no answer. The pressing, winning it back high, then brilliant attacking interplay that yielded 2 ridiculously good goals was a pleasure to see. Yeah, we naturally took our foot off the gas the second half after the mammoth week we’ve had of ridiculously intense, tiring teams to contend with and beat. But the brilliant thing about it all was as much as Everton improved the second half, after they scored the third belter goal of the game, Liverpool stood firm and didn’t concede that second chance for Everton to equalise as much as they probed. In fact, the better chances the 2nd half belonged to Liverpool. And with a little better counters, the final score line always looked more like it would end 3-1 than 2-2. Liverpool fought for their lives second half and you can steadily see the improvement in this young, vibrant, much changed group game-on-game.
Being naturally concerned about certain things we aren’t quite firing on yet is one thing. But it’s proper mad to me how anyone can be narking at a 100% start, with visible improvement with each passing game, knowing there’s still levels to come from us the more we play together and gel.

Even a few Blue mates, who normally go radio silent after a Derby loss, were gracious and honest enough to say if we are showing signs in bits like we currently are, we’ll be absolutely unstoppable when they all click and hit top gear. Really weird way to support and not take full enjoyment from your perfect team. But each to their own.
Massive performances all over the park. Not least Ryan and big Dom who were outstanding in the middle. Both CH’s stood tall when called upon. And distributed the ball superbly. Ekitike continued his excellent start to his career at Anfield. Mo was superb first half. And gave everything for the cause second half to protect our 3 points. And both FB’s were stars too. Special shout out to Kerkez who had his best game yet after he came to the party against Arsenal.
First, massive, 3-game week of the season passed with flying colours against three absolute bleep opponents to play against. Ended by ruining the Ev’s Cup Final yet again!
Roll on Tuesday night and the next leg of the quadruple attempt starting.
Up the 100%,
INEVITABLE Reds!
