It’s mad reading SM last night before bed the amount of narking going around at a comfortable L’pool win. Which that was despite the late goals. Barnsley carried little goal threat and if big Dom doesn’t have whatever the heck he had their goal, they likely don’t score. On him, absolutely laughable the Barnsley manager trying to claim he was both disrespectful the goal. And he should have conceded a penalty. On the former, he was just plain d umb. That wasn’t disrespect. That was just a mad thing that happened for some reason. That he won’t EVER do again. And he wins the ball the peno. Funny how he never mentioned the blatent dive the Barnsley player aye? Or the tug of shirt late second half that left everyone bemused by the official. But back to the performance …..
You can’t win in games like that. You know your superior fitness and individual talent will ultimately see you through 9 times out of 10. Which it did. So it’s hard to raise yourself to a 100% level. Which we never did, on or off the park, as we coasted through in second gear. And then you have a group of professional players the other side, who may never get to play at a ground like Anfield again, giving their all to have as memorable a game as they can to tell their grandkids down the line. Along with it being the FA Cup:L. Which just has its litany of third round shocks over the years. United out to lower league Bournemouth the ‘80’s. Holders Coventry out to non-league Sutton. Champions Arsenal out to lower league Wrexham the ‘90’s. This past weekend Forest out at Wrexham. And the biggest shock of all, Palace out at Macclesfield. That’s just 5 of the MANY third round Cup shocks over the years. So you make sure you aren’t one, get the job done, progress, and go home happy.
Credit to Barnsley. They were really well organised. Kept their shape and discipline well. And even broke a few times. They gave it as good as they could and should be proper proud. And their support had a fun night out that is a rare thing for them these days at a major club.
Not the best L’pool performance by any degree. But a more than sound one that did xactly what the job asked. With another great cameo from Wirtz along the way. Ekitike back in the groove. Along with much needed minutes for a slew of players. And a young winger, who is way ahead of his development curve in what he’s getting to show this season, getting a long run. Oh, and absolute hillarity watching Gakpo racing around with one boot on. And one boot in his hand.

With 4 top drawer L’pool goals thrown in to boots
Really nothing to be upset about at all. With a perfect home draw to Brighton to come next. Where attitudes on and off the pitch will be naturally heightened as the level of opposition naturally controls that.
Onto Burnley and 12 unbeaten for a side that isn’t progressing.
Up Arne’s Red Army on the Cup march!
