Manchester United agree £40m (for four years) DHL deal

Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Manchester United, the record 19- time English soccer champion, agreed on a four-year contract worth about 40 million pounds ($66 million) for delivery company DHL to sponsor its training apparel, according to two people familiar with the deal.

The contract is the first time any Premier League club has sold rights to sponsor only its training wear. The agreement is worth about half the 80 million pounds the team receives from principal sponsor Aon Corp., said one of the people, who declined to be identified because the accord hasn’t been officially announced.

United declined to comment on the report. DHL, controlled by Deutsche Post AG, wasn’t able to comment immediately.

The plan comes as the Premier League team plans an initial public offering in Singapore to raise $1 billion later this year, three people familiar with the IPO plans said last week. A stake of up to 30 percent may be sold, said one of the people.

Thanks to a series of sponsorship deals in recent years the team’s commercial revenue has surged to about 100 million pounds a year, bringing that part of the business in line with income from television and matches at United’s Old Trafford Stadium.

The club also plans to announce next month a sponsorship deal with Malaysian snack-maker Mamee Double Decker Bhd.’s Mister Potato brand, said three people familiar with the matter.

A source at Spurs is pretty adamant #MUFC are soon to be in for Modric. I can't see it but thought I'd pass it on just in case.

When Welbeck was subbed off, Fergie was smiling and looked like a proud Father/Grandfather. He was so happy. Academy lads FTW...

I called it months back and was slated for it. We don't need Sneijder, this year is Anderson's year.

I think De Gea seemed much more confident tonight, only dropped 1 shot, and the clean sheet will do him a world of good. Welbeck, Cleverley and Anderson all played good, aswell as the 'inexperienced' back four. Nice to see the younger players doing well. Certainly seems like a start of a new era, can't really say we need any big signings at the moment, hopefully a good season at Old Trafford. :-)

Anderson isn't really a fully fledged playmaker. I wouldn't mind seeing another creative midfielder, but then, I wouldn't mind if none came in either.

Except they play entirely different roles. Sneidjer would play where Cleverley is now. And hardly called it, most people have been saying he needs a full and fit preseason, first time hes had one with us. Nothing unique or unseen about that.

Fergie once again proves you don't need to spend an unnecessarily sickening amount of money to beat other big teams and make another attempt to reclaim the title. Frightening. I can genuienly see Utd finishing at LEAST 2nd-but after tonight, I'd make them favourites to keep the title. Total footballing Einstein

What we have is enough for the league, may not be enough for Europe. But i have high hopes for them.

Two different positions on the field, Sneijder would be playing where Cleverley is. Anderson is competing against Fletcher and Carrick. Cleverleys role is the more incisive of the two

Not sure about that tbh. I think they have enough about them from what I've seen to cause headaches in Europe-may not win CL (not with Barcelona hanging around like a bad smell lol), but a lot of teams I think will have problems. But you'd know more about that sort of thing seeing them play more than myself

We'll always have enough to cause headaches in Europe, but we don't just want to go far, but to win it. Relishing what they can do though

Pass completion rates today: Cleverley 85%, Ando 88%, Young 72%, Nani 63%, Jones 81%, Smalling 84%, Evra 88%, De Gea 60% (100% short passes)

Possession, and fluid movement. Its the return of 2006-2009. Its a double pivot of intelligent Box to Box and Creative Midfielders, with fluid movement from the front 4.

Looked mesmerising at times. Young has slotted straight in and works so well with Rooney. Exciting times.

Manchester United seem to have adapted a different style of play and policy. The policy is clear as Fergie has decided to inject young blood to the side which has proved to be a very good decision, certainly in the midfield department. The midfield seems to have more depth, control and stability... Compared to the past 3-4 seasons.

The style of play has also changed slightly - we're seeing glimpses of Arsenal and Barcelona class - the beautiful passing etc.. The Anderson goal could be used as a example and few other attacking moves.

A solid win for Manchester United. Thought Weldbeck, Jones and Young were superb.

Natural movement, Rooney likes to drop deep and wide, Young likes to go inside the man, and when Rooney a creates that space so often and then finds you with a pass, its a two footed wingers dream
