The Manchester United Thread

"During Sir Alex's United tenure, he’s won as many major trophies (36) as the esteemed Bob Paisley (18), Brian Clough (10) and Bill Shankly (8) did over the course of their combined managerial careers."

David Gill is saying that Scholes will most probably retire at the end of the season. The ginger ninja is my favourite player of all time throughout these years and I'm afraid I might cry when he announces his retirement. Sad but inevitable.

Scholes could hang up boots

Manchester United chief executive David Gill admits there is a chance Paul Scholes could retire at the end of the season.

Brilliant player
"It wouldn't surprise us if Paul Scholes retired," said Gill.

"On the one hand, we are enjoying the success we are having, so at the end of the season, he will have a conversation with Sir Alex (Ferguson) about that.

"I am sure he will let us know his decision and we will respect it. He has been a brilliant player for many years.

Scholes' long-standing United team-mate Ryan Giggs has already penned a one-year extension and Gill added: "It is interesting that while Ryan got his 12th title yesterday, that was Paul's 10th.

"It shows what he has achieved for us and what an absolutely fantastic player he has been."

What a sad day to see our squad picture without ginger prince...

I don't see the sense of some Liverpool fans. I say some because lot of them have been gracious. But some just think that they are going eo go straight up next year to win the title.

Can you please show me a post where a Liverpool fan has said we will win the league next season? I, like many others, have said I'd be extremely happy with a top four place and then to progress from there and challenge, yes challenge, not win like you have said, for the title in the following season (2012-13).

Don't generalise. It's not needed and makes you look like a fool.

On a side note, congrats United fans, you've been exceptional this season. But yeah, we'll be back ;) And I can't wait for a few years time when you've got the two biggest clubs in England going at it for the league title hammer and tong with each other.

Team vs Blackpool

After yesterday draw clinced the 19th title for Manchester Unitedm, attentions can now turn to the meeting with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League final at Wembley on May 28th. There is however a meeting with relegation threatened next weekend at Old Trafford. Depsite the party celebrations after the match as the players lift the Premier League title, i'd expect to see a much changed starting 11 to keep players fresh for the massive game at Wembley the following week.

My starting line up would be:

Ben Amos (GK), Rafael (RB), Chris Smalling (CB), Jonny Evans (CB), John O'Shea (LB) Paul Scholes (CM), Darren Fletcher (CM), Anderson (CM), Antonio Valencia (RW), Nani (LW), Dimitar Berbatov (CF)

What line up do you guys reckon Sir Alex will opt for against Blackpool?

I would like to see Lindengaard in goal if he recovered from knee injury! And maybe some youngsters on the bench like:King,Keane,Norwood,Morrison :)

I would have put Lindengaard in goal but like you said, I'm not sure if he has fully recovered. Would certainly agree, the likes of Morrison, Tunnicliffe, Keane could all play some part in the next few seasons so would be nice to see what they could do against a good footballing Blackpool side.

youngsters wont play in the game they have fa youth cup final next day

I'm pretty sure some would cope sitting on the bench for 90 minutes, being around the first team for the day then be able to compete for the FAY Cup the next lol

sorry just got emotionally carried away. Would be great to see united and liverpool fight for the title. And honestly liverpool are the only club based on emotions of fan rather than foreign money. You may think i'm crazy but i respect liverpool fc.

Nothing crazy about it. Plenty of Utd fans including myself respect and admire Liverpool Football Club as a football club and what they hav achieved. It's hard for a football fan not to to be honest.

Sampdoria have been relegated - I doubt Macheda will join them now. No goals in 14 league games btw, although many as a sub.

Hardly got any playing time. Only 19 years and can't understand why so many ManUtd supporters have given up on him. He is a good talent and should be sent on loan to Premier league club.

Agreed, he clearly has talent but he lives off the goal against Aston Villa too much I think. Should be sent out to a Premier League team like Daniel Sturridge has to find hi feat and score regularly in the league. Although I am looking forward and hoping Danny Welbeck comes back and stays next season as back up to Rooney and Hernandez

we own more tittles than liverpool just rubbed it in on the liverpool forum.... UNITED! UNITED! UNITED!

Sunilvk7, after how you slaughtered Barcelona for their tactics in the Champions League semi's, what's your opinion of the United players bombarding the referee and lines-men with abuse to get them to give you a suspect penalty? (not 100% decided on whether it was a penalty yet).

Also, enjoy it while you can United fans, because it sure as well won't last. We're coming back, stronger than ever. :)

Jones, Did you see even Liverpool did hound ref when penalty was awarded to Spurs. That is what i said. Every team does that when bi decisions are made, not for every small decision..

Hope that settles it..

They've been relegated? I thought they had been like top 8 the last few years and quite good...

Yeah, Fergie said he has some attitude issues. He should work on his game and prove his worth. Him and Welbeck used to rip the reserve league new one, i mean their combination play. They both had superb understanding..

They finished 4th last season then Manager signed with Juve, lost Cassano in the Jan. From there had epic fall.

If Dimitar Berbatov leaves during the summer which many people think he will (I for one don't) and Michael Owen possibly leaving, Welbeck and Macheda both with Premier League expierence and have both scored in the PL wouldn't be bad back up to Wayne and Javier with Will Keane being another one to possibly start looking to bring through the ranks.
