The Manchester United Thread

Heres a tip for you guys ... Pretend LFCMarshall is a Derby FC fan and debate on the merits of his pointe alone instead of going to the age old argument of 'But you support Liverpool who are even worse hahahaha'
Football rivalries are as old as the game itself and in all honesty (and not being rude here, so if I come across as so, sorry) there is as much chance of England winning the next world cup than a united and Liverpool fan having an un-biased conversation about either's or both of their clubs, which is to say a 1 in a 1,000,000 chance. So don't get your hopes up for that happening for long, if at all.

Hardly excuses. It's pretty much a fact that City wanted to sign him but couldn't due to FFP restrictions. It's also a fact that Arsenal are not the best in the transfer market as seen by their dithering over the years as the article explicitly mentions how they were only interested late on. Admittedly the Liverpool one is based on hypotheticals but I struggle to see why they would be interested strongly when they have Sturridge and Balotelli and FSG have traditionally been cost conscious owners

Also as I said, Madrid wanted to sign him but pulled the plug. Otherwise he would have gone there as his father said. So yeah you did have some good fortune go your way because you wouldn't have been able to beat Madrid

Again don't get me wrong, you did beat off clubs but maybe it's getting more than a little annoying how you keep dragging up old issues by saying that ' Oh person X said we can't sign players if other clubs are interested but look at this HAHAAHA'. Even the most ardent United fan will agree that lack of CL has hurt your pull slightly and perhaps more depending on the perception of the player

Who cares, if you can make same excuses for any transfer that are not made by Barca and Madrid. Not even sure why it's only used when ManUtd sign players.

Yes. Those are excuses.

1. Welbeck wanted out. 2. Three WC attacking players are NEVER a luxury. 3. Are you actually suggesting we should have turned him down for 14m euros for a year?!!!

1. It took you some time but you finally cracked what happened. Especially since LVG said expressly that what you say is EXACTLY what happened.
2. But we should have turned one of the best players in the world (for no big money really AND at a time when we OBVIOUSLY have money to burn) according to you ..... righto!
3. Have you seen Welbeck's scoring stats mate? Or Rooney's and RVP's injury stats?

You can (and by all rights it seems a certainty that you WILL) imagine whatever you want but the fact is that we spent all that money to bring (world) class players for the positions we needed. We need(ed) more yes but lets not forget what happened to Spurs trying to integrate all those players last year (most of who are MUCH BETTER than people initially thought).

And you are SCARED SHITLESS that sooner rather than later little teams with no history such as CHELSEA will be put in their place again.

You obviously completely twisted everything I said. I never said you should have turned down Falcao. I simply mentioned that he was a luxury signing. Also with your pathetic little comment about Chelsea added in probably tells me all I need to know of the type of fan you are . I won't be bothering to reply to you after this

Only make them because whenever United sign a player, someone inevitable stands up and starts making sarcastic remarks. I don't make the same comments about United solely. Chelsea only signed Costa, Fabregas and Luis due to lack of interest from other top clubs. I highly doubt they would have signed if Madrid were interested. If you can find a quote of me saying how Chelsea beat off top clubs for their signature, I'll eat my own balls I swear

Its obvious that Falcao wanted to go to Real Madrid and ADM to go to PSG most probably because they offer CL football this season (plus Falcao being a South American, Real is a bit of a Shangri La for him) and that these teams would have liked them but for various reasons did not proceed to get them, but as sunilvk said WHO CARES!?

They are world class, they are at UTD and they add sooo much to UTD.

Also Id much rather get players in that huge teams are also after cos it shows they re WC.

Sorry mate but I just get incredibly frustrated when a persons arguments are devalued by arbitrary factors such as the team he supports. Like for example, if I make a comment condemning United's transfer spree, immediately people will mock me because I make these comments as a Chelsea fan instead of actually debating on the matter at hand as to whether United's transfer spree is justifiable

.

Oh come on dont be so touchy. Whats a little friendly banter between fans?? Actually I have much more time for Chelsea and their fans than I have for LFC, Arsenal or City ... . And I always root for Chelsea for stuff that UTD are out of/too far off.

Btw, somebody once told me to come back when Ive won 18. It hurt when he said it but I did come back. Im only mentioning this to put my little "controversial" point in perspective.

18,5mil pounds actually if you count in the wages and 6mil loan fee which most of the more reputable journo's seem to agree.

Hardly an assumption. Falcao was offered to clubs all around Europe once his move to Madrid broke down. He was desperate to leave Monaco

Exactly luxury signing is when you sign someone despite having adequate cover which you did with RVP, Rooney, Welbeck and Hernandez. Welbeck wanted to leave but he could have been convinced to stay. The signing of Falcao catalysted his departure

Welbeck handed in a transfer request in May. He wasnt going to stay. The whole point is that he didnt want to be behind RVP and Rooney.

At worst he is 2nd choice at Arsenal now.

Just correcting as you were odd 10mil off if talking euros. If you can pay it you should do it it's what I think and Utd surely can.

I deleted the post but it was too late. Im not going to say either way cos I dont know.

He surely could have been convinced to stay. I remember posting on this thread a couple of week back to enquire as to where Welbeck would go and remember reading that people said he was 50-50 to leave in the first place. Probably explains why their were hardly any teams being linked to him till Arsenal swooped in the dying hours of the transfer window

He had half of Premier League almost interested, but most on loan initially as belief was that he was only leaving on loan. Spurs and us were only to my knowledge who were keen and pushing for permanent deal.

Dont know what happened with Welbeck tbh Giggs was also in the meeting he had with LVG and could not convince him to stay or promise him the role he wanted at the club. Hence why he asked to leave, i just find it strange he has left to be No2 at another club. Wish him all the best though!

We were hoping rather than anything. Even then the club wanted to loan rather than sell

Tbf he rejected Liverpool and Juventus when he still thought he'd go to Madrid, City wanted to offload Negredo first so they could afford him and Arsenal seemed to turn up to the deal far too late once Madrid had said no.

United were willing to meet his wage demands and he wanted out of Monaco.

We're paying him 100k a week less than he got at Monaco. thats before tax as well

Didn't mean it in a negative way, just United were willing to pay what was needed where others may have not.
