Aye although I dont know if thats because hes regressed, or because Barca arent actually good at basic defending.

Ive read an article recently (dont remember where) that he's been pants (something which i knew from my interest in La Liga) but including a long list of calamities which seem to indicate regression ...

Don't understand why we'd look further than Shawcross right now, as terms as a solid CB goes, there is nowhere better.

Go for him in January, slot him in our defence and I'd be a lot more confident than I am now.

Put someone like Pique in there and I'd be ******** myself still everytime the opponent is near our box. We need a dominant CB anyway, Pique is unrealistic and isn't a solid commanding presence as Shawcross. Only problem is Shawcross is his distribution, but even that isn't terribly bad.

Wouldn't Shawcross class as HG too? Not that United would have trouble with that but it's always a bonus.

Pique seems to have 'regressed' as soon as Puyol's injury problems begun. So I recon he may as well bounce back if paired with classic no-bs manly centerback. Shawcross seems to fit the bill, so. Ballplayer+caveman pair, always works.

Not as good as Hummels, although a considerable upgrade on what you have currently. Depends on what Dortmund want for him I think.

God no. He's so **** slow even Terry could run around him. And he has even worse injury problems than any of our defender. On his day he's a solid CD, but those days are rare.

Well with Rojo out you pretty much have no choice but to go for someone in January. There's no hope for CL football with the back four of two 18 year olds and bunch of injury prone wannabies.

Anyone seen Schar or Dragovic not seen them much this season but were suppose to be promising.

Jones constantly picks up injuries, as does Evans. Neither are better than Shawcross from a defensive point of view, maybe with the ball... slightly... look at Evans lately and he makes a lot of mistakes when he tries something though.

What we need is a no-nonsense defender who can play it short to Blind who drops in a lot of the time when we have the ball, it's not like we need some fantastic ball-playing defender.

We just need someone solid, not injury-plagued, dependable and commanding. He fits all of them for me.

Not to mention, Blackett was making a fair few mistakes. McNair was better but we can't expect him to be our saviour.
