The Manchester United Thread

I think that can come from creativity in someone like Luka Modric or Andres Iniesta, they are the players I would be looking at if I was Sir Alex Ferguson.

No wonder you are not Manager anymore Charlie and no big club will ever hire you.

The internet is pretty good. I never seem to see ***** mags left in hedges any more, how times have changed since I was 13.

Random question for United fans - if you were to get a player that plays similar to how Fletcher does for you, who would it be?

for me it has to Javi Martinez. Superb on and off the ball, young hungry and intelligent beyond his years. Specialist enough in one role, yet good enough to play a variety of others

Unsurprising Rodwell number on in Guardian pics. Not leaving though.

Still, only half are deemed as creative play-makers, something United is in need for, and I don't think all of them could make an instant impact at Old Trafford. Some could prove a massive boost for the squad, especially until Cleverly and Anderson return, but I feel with the onset of Euro 2012 coming in just 6 months, most clubs will hunker down and wait until August to do much of their dealings.

We need both types now in honesty, one of each. They'd all make an impact, some bigger than others. But they would certainly boost us

agree about euro 2012, which is why we must try and see if we can do business now, and force the issue, because the prices can only rise with many of these players

Marvin Martin's what you need. And stay well clear of Rodwell!

Would Man Utd be prepared to pay between £20-23 million though-that's the biggie

For the player he is already and the player he can become? yep. Just ask Phil Jones. I'd think the club would play hard but fair with everton though, at the manager and above level, the clubs have a good relationship

Martinez is capable of that. Ever since he was a wonderkin in FM ive been watching him IRL. Not as aggressive, but tough enough, and an excellent reader of the game

True. Safe to say that once again I'm not looking forward to the window again lol. Even if we did get something like £20 million we'd only have half or less than that to spend anyway, but that's a whole other (depressing) subject

Yeah. Both are young, versatile with the potential to be the heart of their country/club midfield for their careers. Would take either.

Rodwell, M'Vila, Martinez. all would be 20 million + now. But the simple truth is, if they all keep playing the way they are now, their values will only rise.

Even though he's known for saying there's no value in the January market, given the age of the players we're looking at, with the Euros coming up and our current midfield situation, it's probably best to take them in January tbh.

Any one remember roscisky's move to aresnal prior to the euro's? ;);)

However, Fergie yet again "not going to be active during the window" come on SAF!! we need something to happen this jan if we really wanna push city.

Rosicky? Prior WC you mean. It's different matter cos Dortmund were in serious financial problems and had already signed replacement.

Wouldn't mind Ganso and M'vila. But knowing Ferguson, he'll buy some unknown's who will be put under pressure to become world class.
Not to say I disapprove, but some big name signing would be nice.

Also wouldn't mind Rodwell.

The good thing about Rodwell, if United were to capture him in January, is that Everton can give more development time to Ross Barkley, who seems another amazing prospect from the Blue part of Merseyside.

The good thing about going after South American talent, is that their season ends in December. So Ganso might be a possibility. Although I've long felt both him and Neymar would find their ways to Spain long before England.

The issue with Euro 2012, is that talents like Gotze want to stay put because there is a high pecking order above them in the national team and must compete for their place. If United are after a talent who already has a spot solidified, it's a more reasonable assumption that a deal is possible. But SAF went on record that he's only signed a few number of players in January in the last few years. Evra, Vidic and Hernandez are the only notable ones that come to mind.

Should be interesting to see all the movement from the top Premier League teams in January, though.
