The Manchester United Thread

The good thing about Rodwell, if United were to capture him in January, is that Everton can give more development time to Ross Barkley, who seems another amazing prospect from the Blue part of Merseyside.

The good thing about going after South American talent, is that their season ends in December. So Ganso might be a possibility. Although I've long felt both him and Neymar would find their ways to Spain long before England.

The issue with Euro 2012, is that talents like Gotze want to stay put because there is a high pecking order above them in the national team and must compete for their place. If United are after a talent who already has a spot solidified, it's a more reasonable assumption that a deal is possible. But SAF went on record that he's only signed a few number of players in January in the last few years. Evra, Vidic and Hernandez are the only notable ones that come to mind.

Should be interesting to see all the movement from the top Premier League teams in January, though.

And then see him leave for around £20 million, and see only a fraction of the money to spend. The usual cycle :S

Though I was also surprised to read that Utd are being linked with Phil Jagielka. Which is strange as he hasn't been in his usual rich vein of form

Yes, I was surprised to see him named POTM for November. Personally I thought Fellaini or Howard should've won it. Which doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that I'd want Jagielka to go...

Yeah agree with that-tough choice between Tim and Mario. Fellaini seems to be playing with a renewed invigour since signing the contract. And definately wouldn't want to see Phil go-once he gets the foot problem sorted he'll be back to normal, and Heitinga was saying he's enjoying playing alongside Jags too-which makes me think that Heitinga may not be so sure he wants to leave. However, once again he's going to have to deal with a lot intense press speculation during the window, which I hope won't get to him again. Should just avoid all newspapers and keep the tv off until february

I'm of the opinion that Moyes benched Distin in the last few games to persuade Heitinga to stay, even after Johnny cost us points against Newcastle, although he's performed well in the last few games. I still feel he may be moving out in January, but I'm somewhat optimistic about this window. I don't know why, really, but I have a sneaky feeling we might yet sign someone. Last January we got Vellios...

This is what I said in other forum today morning.

Would like ManUtd vs Ajax draw (If that is possible) as SAF can see what a great talent Eriksen is

We aren't linked with anyone. Fergie's already denied that spending in January will occur. Probably will be in the summer that United completes some deals. Hopefully Pogba will get some gametime, he was great yesterday for the reserves.

Depends, what you hear in the press is often not what its going on, unless the club make it blindingly obvious. SAF generally keeps quiet then signs. Certainly linked to Martinez though, whether there is anything can happen is another thing entirely

Only really follow skysports on rumours. Haven't heard anything substantial concerning us and Martinez on there. Fergie doesn't like to do transfers in January so I don't see much happening but I guess time will tell. De Rossi would be the one I'll look at right now with his contract being up soon.

skysports show the usual suspects. SAF doesnt like jan, but the last time this happened we spent well in jan and the summer.

Given that it is a Euro summer, think he will be more inclined to do business before the tournie.

Martinez gave a newspaper interview saying he was proud to be linked to a club like united, and apparently we have watched him before (in person that is).

De Rossi's wages would price us out sadly. Even higher than Sneidjer, shame because he is exceptional

That's possible?! :O

SAF on Pogba:
"He's got an agent who's obviously become a bit difficult but we're negotiating with this agent and we want the boy to stay," Ferguson insisted.

"But it's down to the individual also.

"Matt Busby summed it up perfectly, that you don't need to chase money at a club like Manchester United, it will eventually find you. If you're good enough, you will earn money and become rich playing for us, there's no doubt about it.

"You hope he gets the right advice. All the young players who remain here always do well. It's one of these situations that they can chase the money early in their career but at the end it's not the same as if they'd stayed here.

"It's the decision the player has to take himself, no matter who he is, about where they think their best future will be. He just needs to look round about him to realise that. But if he wants to go, there is nothing we can do about it."

"We have an option on Paul's contract that takes us into a year-and-a-half away so in that respect there's not a great emergency about it," Ferguson added.

"But we'd like the boy to sign a contract and if he'd like to be a Manchester United player then he knows what to do.

"There will be chances here. We've got players capable of wearing the red jersey and, and they'll wear it with complete confidence they can do well.

"I think it's how you handle the situation. We're not panicking. We've got enough experience in the staff to cope with these things.

Pogba can **** off if he is holding for much bigger money. He is not even first team back up.

Fergie is blaming the 'difficult' agent, not Pogba

Paul Pogba:

I'm getting in the first team and I enjoy it a lot. I have to carry on and try to play more games. "[My debut at] Leeds was a great feeling. I played away, in a derby as well, and came on for Ryan Giggs. I thought: 'Okay, now is a good chance to prove myself and to show them what I can do'. We won that game and it was a very good feeling.

I told myself I've just tasted it, now I want to eat it - I want all the cake now! I want to play, work hard and do my best to get in the first-team squad.

I think you grow up a lot at United. I came from France. I'm here and I know what I want to do. I just want to be a first-team player, a great player here and that's it. I want to play with the first team.

Paul Pogba:

Yeah signing contract or not is decided by agent not Pogba :S

If Pogba wants to sign contract, nothing his agent can do about it.

Of course the agent has influence. Scarface's career has been run by Kia Jor-stupid-surname. Rooney almost left us due to bad advice from his agent.

I think Pogba will sign on but is obviously holding out for more money and more first team games - as is the norm with modern footballers.

This is the problem with signing foreign kids. If he has no deep affiliation to Utd they'll go were the money is. I'm sure contract talks with a 18 year old Gary Neville/David Beckham/Wes Brown etc went much much more smoothly.

I wouldn't be hating on Pogba just yet - we'll save that for when/if he leaves ;)

Dealing with any modern day Kid is difficult no matter from where they are.

His agent will just advice him, its ultimately him who takes the final decision. For just 18 old kid he is too much of a nuisance. He is a talent for sure and he should make most of it instead of chasing big money.

Well I hope he features 2moro. I'd rather see him than Gibbo on the bench.
