The Manchester United Thread

I honestly think we can get draws from Pool and Chelsea and beat City.

If we park the bus or get lucky like at the emirates the perhaps.

Europa league won't be all bad maybe we'll sign some young pacey players over falcaos also so that will be a plus.

Yeah we might have to do a bit of that. Fellaini will be key in them games and hope we can just up it a bit before then. Pello will get the sack imo end of season and can see City dropping off in coming seasons for various reasons.

All or two of silva, aguero and yaya always hit top form when they play us i'll bet anything on it.

Good analysis, I feel Van Gaal has just switched to full grind mode. Win at home, draw away, when in doubt play long ball on Fellaini and secure that top 4. He'll worry about applying his philosophy after the summer window.

Which I'd imagine is something Fergie would also do. Best managers are pragmatists, can't have long and succesful career if you're constantly obsessing about your perfered system. Vilas-Bosas could learn a thing or two.

Not really. Herrera recently said how Van Gaal wants possession game and dribble only when there is opening, something near to that. When we are having bad day (which is every week) we hoof it to Fellaini in last few mins.

Van Gaal's philosophy takes time, he is asking players to play against their instincts. They have to think and play which would make players not to play to their strengths.

u21s losing atm in the semi final of the cup. Not surprised tbh we have to many average players at that level, all the good ones are out on loan.

One of the worst games ive ever seen.
So poor! I have never seen such a poor u21 team, mostly filled with defenders. Bolton were not that good. If we had Janko,Lingard,Pereira,Pearson,Keane,Wilson available would of beat them easy. GK looks good Pereira and that Tuanzanbe that came on in the 2nd half has been great for the u18s this season one of my tips for future 1st teamer with Rashford who im surprised did not get any mins tonight.

Our youth set up needs some work imo. The last of the good u21s are going out on loan or contracts running out and our Reserve team next season will be very young mostly 17/18 yr olds. But we do have some good ones coming through! Rashford,Mitchell,Tuanzanbe,Gomes,Bonnen,Mensah,Gribbin. Just seems no clear plan to our loaning of players and our unbalance in positions in shocking imo.

Manchester United @ManUtd Follow Louis van Gaal tells #MUTV that Robin van Persie is United's only current injury, but adds it's too soon to say how long he'll be out for.

Manchester United @ManUtd Follow Although Michael Carrick returned to the bench vs Sunderland, van Gaal tells reporters it's too early for him to start tomorrow. #mufc

Here are the main points from the press conference:

Louis van Gaal confirms that Robin van Persie is his only injury although Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Víctor Valdés are all yet to be decided upon:

“It is difficult to say as, in every training session, you can be injured or the fatigue specialist can say he is not fit enough to play a game. And then I have to decide not to use that player. So it’s always difficult to say but the only injured player is [Robin] van Persie.

“It is too quick to say anything about that [a length of absence for the striker].”

Van Gaal confirms he took a risk with Michael Carrick against Sunderland due to Phil Jones and Luke Shaw pulling out of the squad. The Newcastle match come too soon for Carrick though:

“I think it is too early for Carrick. He trained three sessions with us I think because of the players I didn’t bring with us, he was in the 18.

“As a sub you can play 20 minutes, that he can do. He has the experience, he is also a captain. It is not normal that I do that.”

Van Gaal expects ‘a very tough game’ against Newcastle United on Wednesday:

“They always play with a very high rhythm, they want to give a lot of energy and the fans are supporting a lot.

“They want to play football – I like that. I hope it shall be a good game and we shall win.”

Van Gaal on Ángel Di María, his current form and that he feels there is no problem, just a bad day at the office:

“Every player can have that kind of match – Di Maria is not the only player who has suffered a bad day. He can be the best player in the world in the next match, so I think everything is going well. He trained very well and I don’t think there is any problem.

“I have already explained that the higher rhythm of the Premier League is one of the most important aspects but he also has to adapt to a new culture, a new environment and that is not always easy.”

Van Gaal recalls Manchester United’s last match with Newcastle United on Boxing Day at Old Trafford:

“I remember the fantastic goal Wayne Rooney made after a fantastic counter.

“I have seen it again, as always before a match, and I think we played well.

“The win was well deserved: we could have scored more, but it is always like that.”

Van Gaal on Manchester United’s run-in this season:

“You said that before the games at the beginning of the season, when we were 13th – do you remember that?

“And in spite of all the games we had in front of us, we were third. It was 22 November after the game against Chelsea.”

Manchester United are scouting Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, and are expected to make a summer bid for the Spaniard, according to The Sun (via Metro).
The 20-year-old midfielder has impressed for Atletico Madrid this season having been loaned out to fellow La Liga side Rayo Vallecano last term.
Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the young midfielder and have sent chief scout Jim Lawlor to watch him in action for Atletico in the Champions League last 16 first-leg game against Bayer Leverkusen, as the Sun, via Manchester Evening News reports.
The 20-year-old – who according to the Metro has a £17.4m release clause – limped off in that game, however, but United could still make a summer bid for the promising young midfielder.Niguez has scored three goals in 14 appearances for Atletico Madrid this season, and has had an impressive shot accuracy rate of 89%, with only one shot out of eight going off target.
