The Manchester United Thread

Speaking to my mate at work today who is Fulham fan and season ticket holder for 10 yrs. And apparently we have been scouting Patrick Roberts and are considering a move in the summer for him. All his family live round there and its been in a couple of locals.

Thomas Hennecke @ThomasHennecke Follow Mats Hummels überlegt. Und der BVB bietet ihm einen neuen Vertrag an - mit höherem Gehalt. Jetzt heißt es: verlängern oder verabschieden?

Dortmund has offered him a new contract, he must decide if he wants to leave or not.

That sounds to me like an offer is on the table. Dortmund would prefer to keep him and have made a counter offer but are open to him leaving if that is the decision he wants to make.

Got a feeling he'll stay at Dortmund, he seems the loyal type and has a strong connection with the fans.

Just been looking around and some Dortmund fans seem to think we bid 37.5m and has been excepted last week. There just offering him new contract to tempt him, but they fully expect him to be gone.

LOL already started getting nervous about Sunday. Must be 1st time in a long time pundits/journos/bookies making us faves. If they play as they have been lately and away from home and we play to current form I can only see one result. Also if they play 442 against our 433 I can see us taring them to shreds with the amount of space and possession we will have. They look lost, deflated and generally tired and with and average age squad of 30 and ours 27 and less games we should be beating them on the physical side also.

The average age is only that high due to Caberero (33), Wright (37) and Lampard (37), the only players over 30 in the team and likely to play are Toure and Demi really oh and Sanga. Take out the 2 keepers and lamps and it drops to 28. Papers will make stats for everything.. but the looking **** and idealess is bang on :)

The only thing really going for us is we still look better as a team without the ball on the counter, which will be the case.

If we are talking about next season then there are few who are over 30 or not as good as they were.

Zabaleta - 30
Sagna - 32
Kompany - 29
Kolarov - 30 (Nov)
Navas - 30 (nov)
Silva - 29
Clichy - 30
Fernandinho - 30
Yaya - 32

Then there are few who will be 29, not say these players are very old but you need balance between experience and a youthful side. Add to that Kompany's form, Aguero's injury concerns and Yaya leaving (not sure but there are many rumors), lot of transfers are needed.

Are Clichy,Kolarov,Zabaleta,Fernandinho,Silva,Milner,Navas,Dzecko all 30 or very close?

Our record against them is atrocious. I would happily take a scrappy 1-0 win

Defo! A draw would not be the worst. Talking to couple of City mates at work today they seem to reckon could take City couple of seasons to completely sort out there squad. A win would be huge for us going for 2nd.

They might be but the press are still going off the old adage players semi retire or retire at 32 ish. most players play to 35 with the fitness standards are they are today. our team is older but its not a major issue, we're hardly in Milan territory. Lamps will leave, so will Wright, thats 70 off immediately.

They will invest in youngers players but its hardly oh **** there all retiring buy the England U21 team in the summer. Zaba, Silva and Kompany are all 29 but dont need replacing. The rest pretty need replacing due to effort rather than age. They could still bring back Rekik, Denayer and Guidetti to lower it if its an issue. I would expect 5 or 6 in/out, depending on the Manager (who i think will be gone). Managerial tactical stubborness and player motivation are bigger issue with the form than player age atm (All IMO of course). :)

2-4th doesnt bother me the prize is the same. If your not 1st or 5th it doesnt really matter over bragging rights at work, and i work from home ;p - going to drown sorrows in my FM game...

Be tempted 2 make 2 changes for Sunday. Di Maria and Smalling in Jones and Young out.

Smalling 100% and strangely i dunno about dropping young as his defensive work is light years better but i guess with di maria we'd hurt them more going forward.

But i honestly can't see us winning, city almost always turn up against us and no doubt the likes of yaya and aguero will become world beaters again.

Yeah Young has done nothing wrong really but his end product was so bad on Sunday. You said that about Spurs and Pool :P

Right if we win sunday we'll almost certainly lose to chelsea, arsenal or everton. I have to be right at some point, but constantly getting it wrong suits me.

Think he might bring Smalling in for Rojo, as we did against Liverpool. Rojo has a red card in him (especially in a big derby) and the Jones/Smalling partnership has worked well before. Van Gaal may be tempted to leave the team as it i though, I certainly don't see Young being dropped anytime soon.
