He was playing Carrick role, so the right wing didn't look as dangerous as it used to.

Good experiment though, it looked like Herrera was well capable of playing that role.

That's why our attack looked so one dimensional...

Rooney is just "hoof it up to the wings"...

He's not nearly as creative as herrera...in the end, injuries screwed us

Like I said can't complain if you guys are happy with that. Didn't look impressive for me.

Also it's a welcome change from using Fellaini to man mark some player to opposition adjusting their team to negate Fellaini. For all the stick he got last season, he is growing in stature and opposition are more worried about Fellaini than any other player in out team.

I've always rated Fellaini but as a player playing closer to the forward line rather than further back.

Let our opponents find acres of space outside of the area and only lightly press possession in wide areas. We've done this to so many teams this season that you can't deny that it's clearly Mourinho's plan. It might have have been the lack of a final ball that killed you, but you'd be amazed at how many teams seem to have this exact complaint vs us.

I haven't seen any English team pushing Chelsea so deep at Stamford bridge. Chelsea gave away possession because they just were incapable of holding it with ManUtd high line and pressing.

I don't think whatever space Chelsea left was intentional. They tried to press but somehow (never thought I would say the following thing) ManUtd players managed to retain possession when under pressure. Result was Chelsea players drawn out of position and acres of space in the middle. Luckily Chelsea played with full defense mode so there were more bodies to defend.

On thing I have to say though, Chelsea's concentration levels are fantastic.

Yeah Rooney lost his ability to play killer passes. He just passes it to the wing. Should play upfront. IMO that change made us weaker. It messed up Herrera, Rooney's position.

Rooney was never really played killer passes...

Its just passes over the top against opposition keeping a high line...

He shoves it to the wings when the opposition defends deep...kinda like chelsea today

Every time I've watched Rooney in midfield he just hasn't been good enough imo. He should be picked either up front or not at all.

I think Rooney's passing is more situational. Given certain circumstances, he is capable of consistently incisive passes that can open up defences. But this is invariably when he is the centre forward, not a central midfielder.

Players of his role today are much more decisive than him when it comes to rhythmic passing that can ignite an attack.

He's our captain...we couldn't just drop him plus we really didn't have much choice...

Carrick, rojo and blind were all injured so we had no holding midfielders...

He isn't as good when facing a team that parks the bus...

He can't spot those kind of passes that can open them up

And when I say "rhythmic passing", I mean keeping the play ticking over, e.g. Carrick.

That's true. I imagine if carrick/blind would of been fit for the game he would of played upfront instead of Falcao?

Yes, and that showed. Hence why he isn't suited to a central playmaking role. It's not where is comfortable to be the main distributor.

It's when he's at the fulcrum that he can, where wingers can be at their most threatening.

Falcao wasn't so bad tbh. He works a lot, runs the channels, tries a lot of shots, drops deep to help with defence. Just can't seem to find the **** net.

I sort of agree though, should've played Rooney upfront, Mata as 10 and Januzaj down the right.

I can't completely slate him anyways..he was decent

He actually did well to hit the post with that shot on his weaker foot

Chelsea was droping deep, because its what they do if they realize they can't win possession battle.

They did that under Di Mateo, they did it under Benitez, they're doing it now. But hey, we can attribute it all to Mourinho's brilliant tic-tacs, I mean tactics.

And yeah, man-marking Fellaini was the key thing here. United's attacks became too one-dimensional and they couldn't break the bus down.

I'm sort of amused it took Mourinho to figure it out. Captain Rodgers and Pellegrini didn't do **** to counter the big man, even though it was right in front their noses. Both vs. Liverpool and City the centerbacks would break formation to try and fight Fellaini and then all **** broke loose.

This! THIS!! THISSSSSS!

Also that dive by Herrera was ******* world class acting. No chance to see it without the replay. I bet Dean didn't see it either he probaly just figured its gotta be a dive since its 95 minute of the game. :P

Saw it a couple of times on replay. No way was it a dive!
