The Manchester United Thread

Angel Di Maria has told boss Louis van Gaal he is happy to stay at Manchester Unitednext term, writes Steve Bates in the Sunday People .

The £59.7million British record signing is in discussions about extending the lease on the city centre apartment he is renting.

Argentinian Di Maria was badly shaken in February, after his family were victims of an attempted gunpoint burglary at their £4m rented mansion in the Cheshire village of Prestbury, close to where skipper Wayne Rooney and several other Old Trafford stars live.

Di Maria was at home having dinner with his wife Jorgelina and daughter Mia, now two, when the armed thugs tried to break in.

The South American, signed from Real Madrid last summer, held discussions with Van Gaal and senior club officials after the incident amid fears he wanted to quit England

Van Gaal recently refused to rule out allowing Di Maria to leave on compassionate grounds – but the star has told the club he is staying, despite only being a sub in yesterday’s title showdown with Chelsea.

The 27-year-old winger and his family have now settled into an apartment in central Manchester and are over their ordeal.

Di Maria has told friends it has been the toughest year of his career after also struggling with the physical demands and intensity of the Premier League.

The attacker has not scored a league goal since October 5, and his misery was compounded when he was sent off for pushing referee Michael Oliver in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat by Arsenal last month.

But despite being dropped Van Gaal has been impressed with his attitude, and is confident he will play a major role next season.

At the end of the day, we won. You can call it luck or whatever you like. It not like United haven't had their share of luck this season

I admit...we have had our own shares as well..

oh well, kudus to chelsea on grinding out the win

but i was very pleased with my team's performance despite the fact that we lost..

It was a very good performance from United. On the balance of the game, they deserved the win but that's football. You win some and you lose some

Yeah, no complaints about that match. We lost, although we dominated a fair bit. But it was rather nice to see Shaw show glimpses of why we forked out so much for him/

Anyhow, winning games you're supposed to lose is technically the hallmark of Champions.. I mean, if you take the number of victories we've had despite being dominated, then... (And I'm not even talking about LvG) >_>

Okay let's be fair. It was a handball from De Gea, his arm was outside the area. It wasn't deliberate nor was it stopping any kind of goal scoring opportunity as Valencia was going to kick the ball away anyways. Yellow Card for handball and freekick to Chelsea.

In the build up to Chelsea's goal, It was a foul on Falcao. Falcao could have been stronger and held the Chelsea player off, but the Chelsea player shouldn't lead with his elbow.

It was a penalty at the end. Chelsea got the benefit of the doubt tho since it was the 95th Minute. Clearly the only thing that could happen is diving right? :(

I don't see how some have arrived at the decision that Herrera's penalty claim should have been given. He clearly stuck out his right leg in anticipation of the contact, and went down as a result. The referee was right to book him, it was a dive.

Having said that, it's not out of the ordinary. Given that United were desperate for an equaliser, it's far from surprising. The same circumstances with tons of other players in the league would have done the same thing. In short, it's just trivial.

An out of form Hummels or an in form Otamendi who has been really good this season, not to mention he'd probably fit in really quick cos of the other argies we have in the squad.

Decisions decisions.

Laporte.

Hummels. He is out of form but his class is permanent. Absolute beasty player.

Defo Hummels for me, yes hes been out of form but like Sunil said his class is permanent and would slot straight into LVG philosophy as a ball playing CB who is confident on the ball and can bring it out from the back. And his reading of the game is top draw. TBH I would not be surprised if its all but wrapped by now. Same goes for Depay as well.

Easy to forget he was Bundesliga winner multiple times, German cup winner, Champions league finalist, World cup winner. All these by playing as team's best CB, not as a water carrier.
