The Manchester United Thread

Is the editor of the Indy a City supporter or something? **** newspapers will do anything to get a headline. What an absolute joke. Paper journos just love to **** stir half the time

I'm pleased that both the club and Wayne have come out and denied this strongly as usually the club tends to just ignore stuff like this. Glad we all know the truth now though.

Me thinks the journelists are annoyed with the lack of transfer activity and are making anything up that will sell. First the Lampard to Utd rumour and now this, seriously i hope one day people stop buying papers because this is becoming beyond a joke.

Anyone got any info on Pogba, hope he's clever and stays as I can actually see him making it in a couple of years :)

Couldn't agree more CJACKO11. Sooner rather than later people will just stop buying them because of the amount of bull **** they come out with.

Think of it, story was a big flop even before it got published. Waste of time to print it lol.

If this website released a statement or newsletter basicly saying the Indepenent publishes false non starter stories i bet they would be able to take action. Bad thing is nothing will be said or done about them publishing this story, this is why i hate football journo's.

If thats the case then surely every media in top league will be banned about printing stories. But seriously though this is embarrassing. Story was denied even before it was released.

Statement on Wayne Rooney

Issued by Manchester United, Paul Stretford of Triple S Sports and Entertainment Group and Ian Monk Associates

Manchester United and Wayne Rooney have been made aware of the theme of an article in tomorrow's Independent newspaper.

We have not seen the detail but can assure all United fans that the Manager and the Club are committed to Wayne Rooney and Wayne is committed to the Manager and the Club.

The player and the Manager have always had and retain the utmost respect for each other and look forward to working together in the coming seasons.

Any suggestion that Manchester United and Wayne Rooney are to part company is complete nonsense.

How does that make any difference? Dortmund did without spending. So your theory failed, now you came up with only Premier league. Oh wait are you also one of "PL iz da best" category?

No, but since this discussion revolves around the Premier League, I'd rather stick to it. Let's be honest, the only reason yourself and other United fans even mention City's wages is to cry and discredit them, because you know full well they'll be above you for the long haul soon enough, and it makes you feel better.

Well how did Arsenal win leagues without Spending much or paying over the odds on wages? Now what? Stick to modern day football?

Yes. You know, since wages and transfer fees have rocketed in the last 10 years...

Do you actually understand the point you're arguing against or are you just arguing?

No, they won't.

I'm a journalist. It's a journalist's job to find and print the stories people want to read; whether they're true or not depends on how desperate the journalist is and/or whether they value their integrity. They wouldn't print it if people didn't want to read it, and the fact is, bullshit or not, quite a lot of people want to read about these stories. It's the dirty truth, I'm afraid.

Despite being a Man Utd fan, I have to argue that City have been good for the Premier League. Imagine what would have happened if 1) the Glazers hadn't loaded us with debt and 2) City hadn't been taken over by Sheikh whatshisname.

We'd have had no debt repayments, huge transfer budgets every season and, with Arsenal and Chelsea decline, we'd probably have won the league the last few years much more comfortably.

Also without City riches whose not to say the likes of Silva, Yaya and Aguero wouldn't have ended up on the red half of Manchester..

Edit: Nasri almost certainly would have

There's a difference between stories people wanting to read and writing complete and utter bollocks.

Its like the boy who cried wolf. They write SO much ***** that when they do eventually have a world exclusive noone gives a rats ***. Today for example despite Fergie rubbishing the Lampard rumour the Daily Star felt compelled to say he'll wait till the end of the window to get him! What is the Star these days? 20p? Cheaper than toilet roll i suppose

Totally agree....still, a lot of journalists are absolute.....though i'm sure you're not! Maybe if they were better paid or had some sort of scale (assuming they don't) they wouldn#t be so desperate?

No, there isn't. Not if people want to read the complete and utter bollocks, which they obviously do. The newspapers know their readers and what is popular with the majority of them far better than us. They wouldn't keep publishing bollocks if it didn't sell.

Perhaps, but I doubt it. So long as a story sells, someone will write it and someone will publish it.

They do it because it sells. If no one bought them, they wouldn't do it. The fact is people will buy them, therefore people want to read it and there's no reason for them to suddenly stop.

Just because you find it utter bollocks, doesn't mean everyone does. I find X factor to be utter bollocks, yet an awful lot of the country seems to love it.

I'm with you on that one, X-Factor is truly awful.
