The Manchester United Thread

Well Ronaldo, Higuain and Benzema have scored 5/7 of all their goals. By your analogy, they should all be pretty sore in the morning.

Benzema and Higuain are both not only 'on-the-shoulder' strikers whose primary purpose is to score, but also have a better shots-to-goal ratio than Ronaldo. Higuain's is remarkable, if I remember correctly: something like 14 goals off 37 efforts.

You had to go and ruin it with your stats and research.

So? 27 league goals in 21 games is an amazing record. 120 goals in 122 games is unheard of.

He's the best for me.

Terrific record. People may go on to post silly stats, but no one can boast of scoring so many for Madrid.

At least he has the balls to try to shoot from any angle unlike others who lack balls and just pass it to their nearest man.

I wouldn't say he is the best, second best for me.

Having watched a lot of madrid this season a good amount of his more outlandish shots should have been passed or crossed for better team opportunities. Could and should have created more

This season Ronaldo has improved a lot, he is more team player than he was last season. He is even working hard like Jose said.

He has the confidence to take shots, he is very good finisher and incredible shot power, why not shoot to try your luck?

And Messi missed how many?

I have no idea what your point is... All I was saying was if you take away the 10 penalties his shot ratio looks even worse.

I personally couldn't care less about who you guys think is better out of Messi or Ronaldo. Was just providing you with a fact that you probably otherwise wouldn't have bothered taking into consideration.

Mmm. Shame his 24 league goals this season have come from 131 shots.

According to whoscored.com Ronaldo averages 6.1 shots per game whereas Messi averages 5.3 shots per game. So Ronaldo takes less than 1 shot more per game and scored 6 more goals.

Ronaldo total shots: 134
Messi: 111

Why should we take away his 10 penalties? Its a shot on goal and a goal. He has 100% conversion rate and not many can boast about such a record.

At the end of the day only thing that matters is Number of goals scored from individual point of view.

Fine, if you honestly believe that.. All I'm saying is; 17 goals from 129 shots with a on-goal percentage of 32% isn't spectacular.

Although, just to help you out a little bit.. Messi has only made 1 more assist than Ronaldo this season.

I would have posted about assists next ;)

Anyways I always felt shots per game is useless stat. GC pointed about Higuain shots per game, but how many times he came up with magical goals like Ronaldo's 3rd goal yesterday? Ronaldo shoots from every possible angle (As he is a trier and he backs himself rather than pussing out) so I dont care about shots per game as long as the player scores. I say that because it will only help players like Higuain, Inzaghi, Hernandez, Bent as all they do is wait in the box and finish off chances and never try anything out of box.

The only stat worthy is how a player is helping team to rack up points and Ronaldo is doing very well in that dept.

Also can someone tell me if free kicks counts for shots per game?

When you have 1, 2, or even 3 players in better positions and try a shot from 30 yards and blast it to Uranus, you're not a 'trier', you're an idiot, and a very selfish one. That said, yesterday he even allowed other players to take free kicks for a change, which is a good thing.

Yes, but Ronaldo is not the player you are talking about. He has been a better team player this season.

I agree, but he still has bouts of selfishness, though. I tend to avoid Barcelona/Madrid games, but he can be so terribly frustrating to watch at times.

I will never disagree on his selfish part though.

Fergie : "Cleverley, Smalling and Jones are all fit, Nani might be fit and Anderson is 2 weeks away for return."
