The Manchester United Thread

do you think many b list players will feature in europa league mate?

They are eligible that's the only thing I can tell for sure. lol.

I think SAF will play strong team to kill off the tie in the first leg as we dont have game on weekend, then play young team in the return leg as we have game against Norwich away. And if we can get healthy lead, young players wont be under immense pressure. That's what I think will happen.

I wanted us to draw Ajax from many years back, tbh in champions league. I always had massive respect for them. I'm very excited about our tie against Ajax. Cup as a whole, I'm not very keen or wont be disappointed if we throw it away. But if we qualify to semi finals then hopefully we go all the way to win it.

Yeah would love to see youngsters, Pogba in particular. But people are forgetting about Petrucci who has been brilliant for reserves.

Yeah he was injured for around 2 years which really shunted his progress. He was highly rated when we signed him, then was injured. Now he is playing bit deeper and done very well. Would like to see him getting few mins.

yeah will keep eye on him tonight. Just been watching few clips of that andreas perrea we signed from psv could be another diamond defo got some skills and potential.

Man united reserves win 2-1 against bolton. brown and pogba were the scorers, will keane impressed but finishing was poor fryers and de leat were solid at the back with new signing veselli before going off with minor knock. pogba showed glimpses and scored good header but man of match was davide petrucci, ran midfield passing was scholesesque was'nt shy in tackle either and nearly scored long range effort, if he keeps this form will shorly be in first team in near future:)

Some of the passes he executed were simply brilliant. I'm loving his role for reserves. Slightly deeper than #10, involving a lot in general play. MOTM by miles for me.

totally agree there mate honestly thought was watching scholes at times, like you said just dropping little deeper than #10 role where space was and sprayin passes for our attacks.

Yeah, his passing and late runs into the box were Scholesesque. Shame he missed 2 years due to injuries, otherwise he would have been in and around first team squad.

would love to see petrucci, pogba, cleverly in midfield 3 one day

Not enough steel there, you'd get slaughtered imo.

Well they're currently playing a midfield two of Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick, and winning games.

Ferguson has faults, but when it comes to balance in midfield he is a truly breathtaking manager. Carrick/Scholes just SHOULDN'T work...

I thought of that but both Carrick and Scholes are far more disciplined than any of the other three and would certainly contribute far more defensively than any of those, or even all of those together.

That said, it's not like they have a choice when it comes to midfielders. They're just playing with what they have.

To be fair, they're both far older and more experienced, though. I haven't seen much of Pogba, and even less of Petrucci, but Cleverley will indeed need to get more experience and discipline if he wants to play in a three with the other two.

Still, I don't think it's likely. Petrucci, from what I've heard, is more of a hole player than central midfielder, so I wouldn't expect him to displace Rooney. A midfield two of Pogba and Cleverley, with the latter learning to control space and position himself well? I like the sound of that.

Yeah you could argue that in a few years' time they could do the same, I guess we'll see.

On Petrucci, AFAIK he does play a more advanced role, seen him play a few times, but he doesn't play as far up the pitch as Rooney, either.

Petrucci started as #10, used to play behind striker. Then he was injured for close to 2 years. On his return few games he played in the advanced position but once he was back to full fitness he dropped deep. Now he is playing as a CM, he has excellent vision for his age and experience. He can pick up pass from anywhere on the field. Technically very good and has got super shot in him.

Currently I would say his position is CM, he drops deep to collect the ball and spray it and even makes late runs. He doesn't play in Rooney's position anymore, in the squad I would say either Cleverley or Scholes role.
