The Manchester United Thread

I wouldnt mind him. Said him at the start of the window as a decent alternative to a star name (going on last season's form anyway).

Wouldn't argue.

Not seen enough of him to say whether he's (or at least what should be) Utd quality, but he certainly knows where the net is. And that ability is a priceless commodity that will never be lost however much the game changes.

For the price and his knack of scoring, it wouldn't even be a gamble. However unflashy a name he'd be for many.

Even if he didn't work out, you'd get the bulk of that back.

Thats what makes it even more appealing. If we paid £15m and it didnt work out, or scored a few but we buy bigger and better next year and decide to sell, you'd be looking at £10m straight away just for the fact he's English and still got a good few years in him (from 27-28).

I love Neville, spot on today.

They play football, and they've done this for 12 to 18 months now, at 0-0 and 1-0 like they're winning 4-0.

It's not quick enough. They get lulled into this (false of security). They play really well, they're dominating the game, 65% possession, more shots…but then they've got to score goals to capitalise on the football that they're playing.

They've not got enough cutting edge. They've not got players who can beat men in the final third or creative, and for me they get lulled into thinking that they're playing football really well. Win the game first and then control possession.

I expect Wayne Rooney to get into the final third and then hold it up or press on, not pass it back. I expect Ashley Young, Mata and Depay to go and beat men, take them on. They can't just be satisfied with just playing square passes.

Ronaldo,bale,Neymar,muller,cavani...........Austin? Bit underwhelming isn't it? If he signs then I wish him all the best but if we are relying on Charlie Austin then we have slipped along way back when it come to signing the big targets that the rest of europes elite clubs chase. I do wonder what LVG smokes sometimes.

People readily moot Giggs as an in-house successor to Van Gaal, but you could do a LOT worse than get this man on the staff and groom him if he'd want it.

His knowledge of the game is fantastic and his attitude is just perfect for a club the size of Utd. Couldn't imagine Neville taking ANY **** off any player. And with what he's achieved in the game, he'd get the respect back from them.

I'm dreading if giggs takes over LVG, i mean if van gaal doesn't win anything this season he has pretty much failed and i can't see giggs doing any better.

Unless giggsy is monk-esque with a massive budget.

Why would he want to though? He is THE analytical pundit at the moment and unless something massively changes he could easily remain so uncontested for a long, long time. Why risk damaging his reputation by taking on such a difficult job?

Obviously club loyalty and desire to take up the United mantle might play a part, but unless he's really passionate about it you have to think he would be better off just enjoying his new found popularity.

Like I said, 'if' he wanted to come on board. Which might well be a big 'if' for all you mentioned and more.

But he is coaching with England so I'd certainly be exploring the possibility if I were Utd.

I'd give him a coaching job but most likely post LVG as his views on how united should play are completely opposite.

Yeah, wouldn't imagine those two would mesh given Van Gaal is NEVER wrong. *Rolls eyes.

And you couldn't see Neville keeping quiet and not telling him straight if he thought he was wrong.

Big head scratcher for me is how we played against city, spurs and liverpool last season in a 433 we wiped the floor with them and i thought that's it, this is the philosophy and this is how we'll start next season after a proper pre season.

Van gaal is really starting to **** me off...subs were poor...tactics were abysmal...poor man management...

I'm nearly convinced that we won't win **** with van gaal...

220 million and 1 season of experience and still can't get pass swansea

Hopefully smalling, morgan, shaw and darmian don't come back injured from int duty and we see a change in something.

And here comes the doomsday sayers... After 6 games, 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 lost.

Eh, Neville is a great pundit, but still just a pundit. Both him and Carragher are great at picking out invididual mistakes and what not, but put them up in a debate with actual top flight manager and they'd be painfully out of their depth.

Yeah i'd defo go for Neville, when Klopp, Guardiola and Ancelotti either have no contract or 1 yr to go.. :p

Neville is going to manager England, since he already coaches.

LVG will be replaced by either Klopp or Guardiola, depending on how well he does, ie Klopp if he gets sacked, and Pep when his contract expires.

So United have either bid 50m euros for Antony Martial, or 100m euros for Bale.

And i'm meeting the Queen tomorrow.

Klopp is like the anti LVG, he is all about countering and high pressure, full throttle etc etc.

Pep would be more likely as he is more pass, pass, pass etc etc etc and a little boring with the possession is key thing.
