Well, hope he will start against 'Pool after the international duty and will establish his place as #1.

One thing is for sure; he will never sign a contract extension with us, come **** or high water...so will leave on a free next Summer. :,(

Whatever the difference is, your posts about Sterling and Ibe was pure delusion.

Downplaying the player who is about to leave and overrating Ibe.

Sweeping slight that covers a multitude of coaches at Anfield who have all consistently rated Ibe as a better prospect through every level.

Happy to be just as delusional as they in sticking to it Ibe has a far higher ceiling than Raheem and selling Sterling has taken little from the team. :).

I'd of loved to of been here out of pure curiosity right through his L'pool career to see just what was said as outside of one phenomenal half season he's been the frustrating angst of many of the match going crowd down to not living up to the ridiculous hype at all. His character just compounded that. This flip assertion that this has come around down to him leaving couldn't be further from the truth. So it would of been interesting to see what's formed that off of things said on here in particular.

But hey, this is neither the thread nor do we need to go over again what was done to death on here this summer so back to Utd.

How are you so sure?...

We could agree a contract extension with a release clause of 35 million if real madrid should ever come again

Take fan loyalty to your club out of this.

You know you're guaranteed to get an even bigger pay day at the end of the season from the club you want to go to down to them not having to pay any transfer fee at all.

Why would you sign an extension to your detriment and lose that just to help out the club you're currently at?

This really intrigues me as to what Van Gaal will do. How soon he puts him back in.

I'd personally be very happy to see him back in goal the next game being as he's nowhere near match sharp. And goalkeeper to me is th one position you DO need to be consistently playing. You just can't replicate what you face in a game in training. (And by all accounts he's not even been training with the first team through most of this.). Chances are Casillas will yet again play both qualifiers, because that's what Del Bosque does with his 'keepers and captain. (And a side note on that. Even if De Gea took a backseat at Utd this year, his place in the Euro squad isn't in any doubt in all probability. He's not going to start regardless. That just is what it is in Spain with Casillas. But he'll be in the squad whether he's playing and tearing it up or not.). So he may not even get any game time there.

As average as I think Romero is, I'd be just as happy to see De Gea thrown back in totally un-battle tested this term to press.

And then there's the Romero factor and just dropping him straight off. That could send out the wrong message to everyone else.

But then how do you NOT play a player of De Gea's undoubted quality if you deem him to be mentally ready?

It's a real intriguing one to see how it's all handled.

Even he hasn't been himself this season, so that would of been a gamble with the price tag would of been massive. That's what put Arsenal off.
Arsenal weren't even interested.
Come on now, people always claim they don't want to leave, but what this really means is that nobody serious came knocking. Higuain and Lacazette would swim to Manchester naked if you've actually made an offer.

Arsenal had a 70 mln euro bid for higuain rejected in July.

Ignoring the fact it would be "tapping up" and quite illegal if Real Madrid and DDG have an agreement that if they sign him for free, they'd pay him money.

Because it might not be all about the money? And even if it was, I'm pretty sure Man Utd could offer him the £5 million or whatever as a signing bonus. Add in the fact that Real Madrid seems to be the one that ****** up the transfer. Imagine how DDG feels having to wait all summer, something that Real Madrid caused by not offering what we wanted in the first place, then on the last day of the winder actually offer what we want, then **** it up. He even sold his house because he thought he was going to get the transfer, but no, Real Madrid ****** up.

Sure, he's probably annoyed at the way Man Utd dropped him to the stands, but understandable giving the circumstances. Imagine how ****** he is at Real for ******* him DDG dream transfer?

Meh, 'tapping up' in whatever form goes on constantly. No doubt my club does it. No doubt your club does it. No doubt most every club out there, particularly major ones, do it on a regular basis. There's too much money floating around and too much at stake for that not to still be the case. Every so often, someone gets caught and made an example of. But Madrid are no worse than anyone else in that respect. Everyone would know that was the case with De Gea and Madrid. But it wouldn't come out like that and UEFA et all would just turn the blind eye they always do.

Maybe he is ****** at Madrid. Who knows? And maybe he has a complete about turn. Stranger things have happened.

It'd be a major surprise if he did when alls calmed down is said and done though if we're honest. And I'd be going forward on the basis that you'll need a new #1 in 2016. But anythings possible.

The more pressing concern for me as a Utd fan would be just what damage Madrid may have done to the situation with De Gea and United in the interim right here and now.

As big a ****** as they've been, they could well come out laughing on this from all angles.

*Edit* 'Laughing' bar the Navas scenario. Not sure how that one is going to be repaired in a hurry and they're stuck with it for the year.

Navas reportedly called United on Tuesday asking what he can do to save the transfer. He must be absolutely furious, and he should be. Openings for goalkeeper in elite clubs are extremely rare, and he may have just missed his last one. And its 100% they will try to offload him again, this time to god knows where.

We can match whatever real madrid offer him...I was actually shocked he was on just 70k per week

Yeah, I know they've brought the other fella' back from Espanyol, but if the Navas situation alone f-ed up their season I'd be happy.

It really is a horrible, horrible football club in SO many ways.

But then it's the biggest and most glamorous club on the planet in one of the best City's in the World that can attract players and staff like no other so what do you do?

Madrid, and everything that goes along with them, just is what it is.

For Madrid it's a failed transfer, something that never happens for them. Not sure if they are laughing.

Madrid haven't done any damage. Window is shut, we have world class keeper for a year and 1 year to search for proper replacement.

In middle of all this, he might sign new contract or madrid might get transfer ban

Like I said, Van Gaal wants 2 players for each position and 3 GKs in his squad. We are shaping up to that.

Maybe his man management style is not suited to handle big squads as he is very straightforward so he likes to work with smaller squad.

I'm completely with him there. That would be my philosophy as regards squad building as a coach/ manager. 22/23 players with adequate cover for each position is ideal supplemented if possible by the best youth you think has a realistic chance of making it.

Squad size and rotation has gotten nuts in the modern game.

Wenger didn't rate him enough to pay 40 mil back when he went to Napoli so I'd bet everything on the fact he wouldn't be bidding almost twice that now. Benzema was the main target with late talks with PSG about Cavani who would have cost 50 mil pounds which again Wenger thought excessive and brief inquiry about Zaza from Juventus, but again demands too high for Wenger.
