The Manchester United Thread

I hate that the Premiership and Champions League money has brought around this attitude from clubs and fans.

I understand it (even if I don't agree); but I hate it all the same.

I never held it in any higher regard even before all the money, it's not a trophy that holds much value to me at all. All I really look at with this competition is the chance to blood squad/younger players who are on the fringes of the first team.

The heck it was.

Clubs always used to be full strength and treated it with the respect it deserved before the Premiership. One of only three domestic competitions you can win in this Country. Your own club included.

It's only in the PL era that it started being devalued by certain bigger clubs prioritising. Then everyone followed suit.

You'll find our club has always loved one domestic up: The FA cup.

Ferguson has never forgiven the Fa for pressuring United to go to the club world cup in order to further the world cup big in 2006

Be interesting to see the line-up we put out tomorrow vs Ipswich, I expect and hope we don't play Martial, give him some rest in preperation for the weekend. I'd like to see Wilson, Pereira, Lingard and others get a chance tomorrow to be honest. Least important competition and I put very small value on it.

Won't happen.

Meanwhile, young duo James Wilson and Jesse Lingard won’t be required to face Ipswich after they both scored in 90-minute displays for the Under-21s against Everton on Monday.
The manager added: "I don’t need them so they can have a day off and then Thursday they will be fresh and can train.

Very strange that these 2 players are not trusted even against Ipswich at Old Trafford. Both need games and this was ideal situation.

At least Pereira should start.

The league cup has been unimportant long before CL and prem money became big

Sort of agree but I like League cup a lot because SAF used to play lot of young players and it was very good platform to prove their worth.

Also after 4 barren years, we won league cup that started the come back in 2005.

We should get through this group, no excuses if we don't it will be an under-achievement not to progress.

I go further; it's not just about getting out of the group somehow. We must win this group because that's the only way to avoid group winners in the knockout stage. Can you imagine what would happen if we would get Real, Barca, Bayern, PSG in the last 16? They would tear us apart. And the reason why I mentioned these particular teams is that imo they posses the deadliest striking forces in europe and I'm not sure if we're ready for Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo or a Messi, Suárez, Neymar trio.

If not in round of 16, they will teat us apart in QFs.

This is true. We used it as a proper testing ground for youth. We expected them to win these games, not just run out.

Yeah. Looks like this year that won't be the case. Will be fielding first choice players along with 1 or 2 young players.

Rojo & McNair out injured. Hands up who wants to try Darmian as CB or LB. :D

Btw, have you checked this?

Manchester United FIFA 16 Ultimate Team Players & Ratings - Futhead

SHAW 77!?!?!
SMALLING 79?!?!?

Would expected 80+ for both of them

And 86 for ROONEY is kinda joke.

Tbf, Shaw has a potential for 88 in the career mode (if you play it, most seem to play UT now so potential doesn't matter anyways) but Smalling is joke, easily in the best 5 in the prem atm at least

Darmian played quite a few times for Torino at LB so its not a case of trying him there. He can easily play there. Id much rather have Valencia at RB and Darmian at LB than play Young at LB.

Worst case for me would be putting Blind at LB and splitting him up from Smalling. They complement each other well. Having Smalling AND Jones in the middle would be a bit too kamikaze in my opinion.

Id even try Jones at RB and Darmian at LB for a bit more defensive stability.

Johnstone
Jones, Smalling, Blind, Darmian
Carrick, Powell
Lingard, Peraira, Young
Rooney

Thats the team I'd like to see tonight. Mix of youth, experience and players that need game time. Dont think Lingard will play after what was said so Id put Young on the right, Fellaini in behind and Pereira on the left. Or swap Rooney for Wilson if possible but he's probably in the same boat as Lingard.

Nick Powell is just back after out for 6 months, no way he will start this match,

No he didn't. He posted pic on twitter that finally he is back to the field and he had massive stitches. Looked serious injury.

Manchester United Team vs Ipswich: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Young, Herrera,Schweinsteiger, Mata, Fellaini, Periera, Rooney#MUFC

First start for Pereira.

Ipswich have made 11 changes see if Rooney plays poorly against a back up Championship side surely has to miss some game time even if he is the captain

ROOOONEY BASICALLY FM'D THE IPSWICH DEFENCE!!!

Alright, alright, that ball control was excellent. ;)
