The Manchester United Thread

He was up to his eyeballs in FA fines, arguments with Fergie/Wenger, a Stadium Ban, accusing Barcelona of bribery, the first time around as well. His whole management style is based on rounding his team to US vs ALL. and they cheat. :)

He's a short term fix, which might work well for MU at this point. The gulf/advantage Man U used to have in commercial money and appeal alone just isn't enough anymore. Chelsea/City closed it with owners, Arsenal with not buying, and the rest are gaining via the TV deals. The gaps between top 2 / top 4 and the rest is now closer than ever. The pack is being reshuffled, great couple of seasons coming into play for everyone at the min...

Except there were chants about Jose against Norwich.

Also Jose is not hated completely by United fans. Arsenal and Liverpool fans hate him, United fans are divided when it comes to Jose. There are many United fans who are massive fans of his and there are many who hate the sight of him.

Probably has something to do with him and SAF being alright with one another even when they were competing whereas Jose's battles against Benitez and Wenger were incredibly fierce

If there were it was a minority and minimal. Presumably in utter frustration at Van Gaal. I watched the game myself and there was little of any of that coming over as certain places have reported.

But regardless, the brand of football wouldn't improve to any significant degree so the same frustration and angst would remain. Results only mask that for so long. People want to be entertained with it which is the main gripe at the minute.

I am not really sure about the impact he has on sponsors. On one hand, he wins trophies which is excellent. He is charismatic and always in the press which is also a good thing when he is not saying ****. But on the other hand, things like sacking doctors, poking people in the eye and lashing out at match officials might make other sponsors steer clear

Again I really don't know. Chelsea did sign big Yokohama deal after he won the title but then again, he wasn't that bad last season as he was winning and everyone else was ******** up

Nah, let Jose go back to Madrid and MUFC get Rafa.

Just for my own amusement at watching RedCafe top itself :lol.

as Alcaraz says, have a look at Madrid. Jose needs to dial it WAY back.

LVG didn't exactly come with a reputation of being a cool cucumber, he has been alright in that regard so far.

Yes except Jose is coming on the back of his worst behaviour alongside the Madrid days. LVG had cooled down remarkably a long time ago. Are you really trying to spin this somehow?

I was at that game and, quite frankly, I didn't hear much of that. If at all. More of it was geared towards encouragement and scoring the equaliser.

But yes the consensus is divisive.

Maybe. But certainly not gouging-out-people's-eyeballs territory either.

We can argue this to the hill and back. Like it or not, Jose Mourinho is one of the most successful managers in the game and has proven himself all around Europe which so far is more than can be said for Pep. Does that make him a better option? Not necessarily but it certainly puts him high up in the equation for our next manager.

It will be either Mourinho after the next game or two (unless LVG miraculously recovers) or we'll stick with LVG/Giggs until end of season knowing we are getting Pep.

No United need some kind edge/aura back, right now it is all too nice, some more horrible ***** who thinks everyone is against them like in the past such as players like Keane. Mourinho fits well in that regard.

Plus remember when Rooney actually had a fighting spirit? Now he's like a shadow of himself who doesn't do anything.

There's a fine line between fighting spirit and making a moron out of yourself, but Mourinho has crossed that line ages ago.

Reading this thread feels like some people have put a bucket on your head in an attempt to ignore the reality for what it is.

The facts are as follows: Mourinho just came of worst season of his career, being near relegation zone at Christmas and starting fights with entire planet. Meanwhile Van Gaal is joined 4th at Chrismas, but that's somehow a massive disaster that demands sacking.

Anyone who thinks Mourinho will arrive a hero on a white horse and save the club, is completely deluded. This wouldn't be like his previous clubs, where Mourinho always arrived paved in glory and players were prostrating at his feet screaming "teach us Master". The man just embarrassed himself in front of the very same league you are playing, and he picked fights with just about everybody in it, too. That's not how you fix the atmosphere in a club.

Seriously.

I don't want Mourinho I'm just giving the guy some credit, people in here are acting like he's still not top 3 managers of the world. One season doesn't change that.

You are taking Sunil completely out of context

He just said that 3 or more managers have done better work than Jose in the past 5 years which is quite fair. People have given him due credit whilst giving a balanced opinion. Only you seem to be the one who is giving an extreme perspective

he's had 4 years of being a shithouse, he's being courted because they need a back in the likely fact they will miss out on pep, who has been courted by City for at least 2 years.

Jose doesn't need to reinvent himself, but he does need to go back to 2004-2006 himself.

This isn't Chelsae, there are very powerful board members who will come after him, namely Sir Bobby Charlton.

I think he does Mike. Going back to 04-06 is one thing but there are others

Namely having the guts to develop and play youth players. Reports that during international breaks, Mourinho and his coaching staff would just relax and let U-21 coaches take training of fringe and youth players when they could have used that valuable time to learn from Mourinho himself

Secondly, actually revamping his motivational style. Knowing who to hand out the carrot to and who to give the stick to. Not letting his inner competitor completely dominate his persona and make him pick fights with everyone. Not relying continuously on a 'core' group of players to play every match and completely burn them out

Others will disagree but 04-06 Chelsea teams were the best the EPL has ever seen imo. He needs to go back to that managerial style and combine that with adopting a keen eye over youth development and integration

Having Simeone/Pep right now is just as big a gamble as Mourinho though my point is based on, none are proven in BPL or across Europe like he is.

Pep has had great success with a good platform underneath him, if he comes to United it will be a challenge unlike he has faced.

Seriously.

And has anyone actually understood the problem

United players are apparently frustrated with LVG because he adopts stifling tactics that restrict their expression on the pitch and he is an authoritarian figure who does not tolerate dissent within the club

And they think Jose will solve the problem. Lol

Ideally, the man to come in should be Carlo Ancelloti. He will give everyone a big cuddle and release the handbrake to play some great attacking football. You get good runs in the cup and a fair shot at the league as well considering how inconsistent everyone else is

But even that ship has sailed. No idea what Woodward has been up to. Perhaps he should have focused more time on this instead of finding another noodles partner

Everyone is a gamble. It's all about the right 'fit' for what you want at the club. Mourinho does not suit the United profile and he is not going to solve the reason why players are unhappy with LVG.
