The Manchester United Thread

Cantina's comeback game. Ground being rebuilt. No away fans. ('Officially.' I know a lot of lads who were dotted around Old Trafford that day. Quite a few lads from both sides got stung too as Utd got wind of forgeries and changed the way they put the date of all things on the ticket that season for that game.).

Sat in the Stratford End, on my hands, as Fowler destroyed you and you got a very undeserved draw. THAT was a VERY hard afternoon to keep a low profile I can tell yer!

Oh, and my hate-o-metre has Chelsea on a plane all by themselves.
No wonder you were sat on your hands Stratford is in London ;)

Do one bollocks! LOL.

*Go's to alter 'plane' before he realises that typo too.

*Edit* Ever sit in the seats right up the back? Back when it was standing. Discovered those the rearranged semi against Forest in '89.

Yep I've sat there a few times, but then I've also sat in seats at Edgeley Park, watching Stockport play Scarborough now that was an experience never to be repeated.

A 'loan' paying £6 million down and his wages of £1.06 mill. a month over 9 months ..... over £15.5 million for a 4 goal return on the investment .....Loans that aren't transfers don't come cheap these days huh?

When you're taking that kind of investment, to all intents and purposes it's a very costly flop.

Or a very costly 'trial period' if you chose to view it that way.

Differing views so we'll leave it there.

It's not a differing view. It's a loan, by every official definition. With respect, you're wrong on this point.

You think loans are free, or come with no payment involved? Even Liverpool paid 5m for Sahin to come on loan

Of course loans today aren't free.

Just the more financial outlay, the bigger the success or bust of the deal. And Falcao was a major outlay for little return. Sahin was a bust in our relative terms for Rodgers being as he had no earthly idea of how to play him for the outlay. Just the way I see it.

But enough of that. What's the latest word or not on the boardroom 'battle?'

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has said he doesn't expect to see any new faces at Old Trafford this month, however his club have been linked with a £12m deal for Yoshinori Muto. Reports suggest the Mainz 05 striker, dubbed the 'Japanese Messi', has caught their eye. The 23-year-old has scored seven goals in 14 Bundesliga appearances.

Just watched the juventus match...I just keep scratching my head about how Fergie, of all people, let pogba go...on a free transfer for that matter...

This lad is on his way to becoming a top 5 player in the next 4-5 years...

Eh, I find Pogba incredibly overhyped.
Not only overhyped but also full of his own self worth. He thought he was ready for first team football at United when he was too young, then when he couldn't get what he wanted he left. Ok so he's proved himself in Italy (the weakest of the big 4 European leagues in my view) but he's not really proved himself on the international stage, or the European cup stage. Until he does he will always be just another wannabe.

Fergie did make a mistake though, I mean I remember that game where he substitued Rafael on to go in midfield over Pogba. That is just plain insulting and I can kind of see why that hurt him.

We could do with Pogba no doubt, but that just tells the story of where we are right now because he isn't as good as everyone makes out, but he is still good, lets make no mistake there.

What? Italy the weakest possibly, but still won a few titles, went to the final last year in the European cup, and has been pretty key for France too. Totally different team when he plays. Add to that he has been learning his game off one of the best playmakers in Pirlo and also Vidal before he left. I would disagree, he is turning into one of the best CM's in the world and whoever gets him will have an absolute monster of a player.

We'll have another Pogba situation soon with Pereira I think anyway, he must be getting so frustrated not getting hardly any chance despite seeing the garbage out there. Mata never gets dropped despite being poor and almost invisible on the pitch. Same can be said about our other attacking players as well apart from Martial.

Pereira deserved to start that game against Sheffield United, yet he still doesn't give him an opportunity. If Pereira decided to leave can anyone actually blame him?

I would agree mate but to be fair I'm still loaning him out on FM16 in the 2019 season haha

Yeah, he's right up there already for me with anyone else playing that role and his athleticism and movement take him a class above IMHO. Frightening to think he's still developing.

I appreciate the knock on Serie A, which had a question mark against him from myself. But he was immense on the biggest stage of all in Europe last year. Arguably MoM the European Cup final in defeat. And as you noted, already the key player of a very talented Les Bleus team.

To be fair there's not many that aren't ..... :D.

We haven't scored a goal in the first half of a match since September, honestly if that is not a sign that there is something seriously wrong then I don't know what is. I genuinely wonder what it takes for LVG to be sacked from a board perspective? Even Adidas have come out and said the style of football isn't good. Woodward must be at least fearing the sponsors watching this tripe.
