The Manchester United Thread

It seems you can't because the guy who came on was a LB who came on for Ashley Young who isn't really a LB he is a makeshift player there but is actually a winger.

My point exactly.

Idk why Cameron Borthwick Jackson didn't play from the start, keep players in their natural positions and good things happen. When I've seen him play this season he's always done quite well. Start him there in his natural position and put Young further forward.

Yeah let's just start younster in the defense in a high pressure game. Because that worked so well against Wolsfburg, amirite?

According to opta united scored with every shot on target vs liverpool this season

Him and I think (Varela) started that game if I remember correctly and actually were two of our better players, they did well.

How the **** can you blame them for that game when two of the goals came from Naldo's head?

Young played as LB many times, so instead of making us weaker in 2 positions, Van Gaal should just play Young as LB and Darmian in his natural position.

Zzeezzy has a point tbh.

He probably put Darmian on the left because Martial tracks down less, so he wanted a better defender there. Makes sense.

Short term it's a fantastic result for United, but in the long-term it's very, very worrying. It is without doubt one of the worst United performance i have seen at Anfield.

It is all about the three points, but I was actually shocked just how bad they were - Liverpool just couldn't punish them for it

I would have agreed if it was against any other team and any other ground. We usually play **** at Anfield and always **** bricks. Even Fergie teams didn't play well, best example was even we won CLs and was among best teams in the world we played bad at Anfield. Tevez's winner, O'Shea's winner were all like this. Play **** and grab result.

4 players. 4 vs 1, Fellaini still won the header. Fantastic.

Double again this season.

Such an unorthodox player but he undoubtedly can have a big impact on games. I thought Fellaini actually was one of our better players today, just behind De Gea IMO.

Why can't we play against Liverpool every game? We would win the League really easy.

Actually Martial has very good work rate.

Only reason I could think of is Smalling is better at covering Young than Blind but again this makes 2 positions weaker in 1 shot. He should just play youngster instead of make switch players.

Darmian looked like a lost kid as LB, he was wandering in the midfield. Second half he was very good as RB. IMO he should be RB and Young actually played better as LB.

Edit: Actually your whole point is wrong. Mata played as RW when Young played as RB. So Mata is not known for his defensive ability. If anything Martial is very good at covering his full back.
Also Martial played as RW and Young as RB against Newcastle.

Only reason should be Smalling covering Young better than Blind.

This looks like that period of the year where we just scrape past games

If it works then it is a fantastic trait to have, I just dont see any improvement at the moment.. It's good enough to beat Liverpool who are struggling themselves, but it's a long way from City and Arsenal

Dont get me wrong, I'd take the three points every day of the week with a performance like that - but i cannot remember United looking as bad as that.

Obviously you watch them every week so it could be better/worse than usual but it seemed very, very easy for Liverpool the majority of the game which makes it even more frustrating we have lost it!

They did well? Your defense didn't even exist in that game.

You're being harsh and not recalling the same game as I am. Varela and CBJ played well it was the heart of our defence and midfield that let us down that game.

Anyway can't you at least answer the part of my post you conveniently ignored?

Like I said, I have seen games like these at Anfield, we usually bottle it and that's the reason I hate this fixture more than any.

I said before the game, I wouldn't mind boring performance if it means 3 points at Anfield. So I for one wouldn't complain about performance this game at least :)

he only headed in one he volleyed his first goal

Oh my bad, but still, hardly was fullback's fault. They had good game, people were raving about how well they did at the time, especially Varela but CBJ impressive as well considering the situation they were thrown into.

I'd much rather see us develop someone younger like that into their natural position than us take a makeshift winger and move him back to LB or RB such as Young to cover there.

If we don't develop these guys when there is an opportunity to do so, when do we? Because when Shaw returns or Rojo they will not even get near to first team. When they have the chance like now it is good to test them out and develop them.

Just because the goals weren't their fault, doesn't mean they played good. They didn't, they were *****.

They weren't. They were good and that was the only positive points from that game.
