The Manchester United Thread

well if you want to spend god knows how much on some 1 who may or may not be better than this rooney as you put it then whos being foolish

Cavani is clearly better and miles better than Rooney (never said he maynot be better than Rooney). I don't want Cavani for simple reason that he can't be a long term solution. We should go for someone like Lukaku who can be core of the team for years to come with Martial.

That doesn't mean Cavani is not better than Rooney, he clearly is. For a start he can trap the ball and can dribble.

For the money reported from the Cavani, Surely it makes more sense to spend just a bit more and get lukaku. He's playing well in the EPL already, younger and more of a physical presence.

Absolutely, I'd even give my virginity to Lukaku if he signs.

So Pedro might be leaving Chelsea in the summer, as well as Falcao.

Duncan whatshisface will be gutted

******* **** was non stop when Pedro crossed the ball to Falcao (who scored the goal). That worked out well.

Saying that, I believe selling Pedro would be a mistake. If he wants to leave then fair enough, if not he should be given time to adapt to the league.

Rooney can actually finish. That's the main objective for a striker.

True. And part of the reason he wants out of PSG is that he plays out of position!

They must surely be aware that is where he would likely play. Martial left, Rooney up top. Mata in pocket

Cavani definitely has a chance of making an impact in this team. That being said, the entire idea stinks of more Billy Big Bollocks bullshit from Woodward. **** meticulous team-building, acquire superstars.

I seriously worry about United with Woodward in charge, the whole place seems to be moving dangerously close to the Galactico-like concept of running a club.

It sure looks like it.
We certainly won't be producing our own superstars unless there is drastic change.

The ongoing situation with fullbacks is dramatic, really. I honestly think it's the biggest reason why this season is a flop so far. In modern football you can get away with having mediocre CBs, you can get away with having mediocre strikers, you can get away with a lot. But if full-backs suck, you're dead.

LVG: 'I need full-backs.'

So, seems like Cavani is gonna get played out of position again. :D

Damian and Shaw backed up by Varela and Rojo. That's as good a balanced quartet as you could wish for. What more does anyone expect? Utd to carry 4 £10/15 million pound plus FB's? Two real good starters there. Damian established. Shaw up and coming. Backed up by experience and a good aged younger player who needs to be involved and playing at 22. You can't legislate for injuries but you can't just keep adding and adding when you get them and using that as an excuse.

Why he steadfastly refuses to play Varela, a natural full-back who's both looked promising, albeit briefly, and is Uruguayan, a Country that generally breeds solid defenders; and would rather play a winger out of position is a continued mystery to many Utd fans I know. ****, even Jones has experience at RB.

Even with the injuries, Utd are in a far stronger full back position than most teams the league. But Van Gaal refuses to utilise the natural ones at his disposal.

I hate this criticism Woodward is coming under all of a sudden. I know united have never been known for making marquee signings but we have no choice now of we want to remain competitive especially since Fergie retired.

Might want to check your history on that.

Woodward is getting blame for Van Gaal's failure. Most of the transfers are good ones but Van Gaal is not using them correctly or because of his rigid system players are not playing to their potential.

Also people know **** all about David Gill when they say it was lot better in the past.

Fergie was never know to buy ready made stars with a few exceptions. To estimate in percentage, 20% of Fergie signings were marquee...the rest were either squad players or youth prospects.

It's quite unfortunate how much stick Woodward comes under. David Gill had it easy since he was working with Fergie, a man who could make mediocre players play way above their abilities so he never had to worry about marquee signings. In addition, he didn't face the backlash of inflation in the market so there was no such talk of "overpaying" for a player.

Fergie paid record fees for players from pretty much 1988 onwards. Pallister was a nation record fee for a defender, Keane a British record fee. Fergie bought well, bought garbage, but he/United are a club known for spending more than everyone else coz they had it, they were commercially leagues ahead of everyone else, they are a club known for big/marquee signings, and have been for about 20+ years now.
