The Manchester United Thread

3 points is not important when it comes to junior football. Player development is and for the players I mentioned it's important they are promoted to U21 and first team quickly.

Winning is important at any level for anyone destined to get to the top, its how winners are programmed and make it, they hate to lose. Always has been, always will be.

Nice to see the lads moving up though, always like to see the new kids with the funky names by this generation make it.

Deshawn McDale O'Malley shoots, he scores... its like watching FM turn out naff named regens. How i wish Nortei Nortey made the chelsea first team..

@JamieJackson___ LVG on Rooney:"That's also typical Wayne. He's a guy who wants to go until the end and if he is feeling pain, he doesn't want to go away"...

Not necessarily. 11 average players winning youth cups or 2-3 special players making their mark for the first team? It's easy choice IMO.

Winning mentality is needed at all levels, I agree with that sentiment but I wouldn't trade players development just to win some youth cups.

u21s are points clear with a game in hand, i'd at least try and give the under 18s a stronger lineup and a win or two, just for squad morale at least, they were bottom of the table until recently. i'm sure players at that age can manage the extended gametime. Maybe its just me though.

That won't do them any good. The players I have mentioned are playing very well in U21s and are on the verge of first team call up if there is crisis. IMO they should play in U21s and continue their development. They should be tested more and that happens more in U21s than at u18. Ro Shaun Williams, Tuanzebe have played their part in U18 and are promoted to U21 on merit, just like Fosu Mensah.

Previously Januzaj, Pogba, Rossi were all promoted and played well ahead of their age groups.

Might do the rest of the players in the u18s some good? i'm not on about the development of just those 3, but your under 18s have 4 wins in 20 games this year, thats gonna be depressing as **** eventually. When the 21's are clear on points, a morale boost for a game or two wont hurt their development and give the rest of the lads a boost at least.

Well ****. Rooney injured.

Time for Martial to get his chance up front and Memphis or Januzai needs to show up to fill in at LW. Or we'll rely on Wilson or Keane up front....

Not sure that works like that. For example, I don't like senior players playing for U21. Once your team is set it's set for the season. Hopefully U18s learn hard way. There are couple for good young players.

Also I don't like few players from U21 playing in FA youth cup just because they are eligible. If they are promoted to U21 they should play for U21 and only U18 squad should play FA youth cup. Maybe that's just me.

Apart from a brief hot spell in January, lets be honest, they can't do worse than Rooney and it could be blessing in disguise. Will actually see if Keane and/or Wilson have anything about them for this level.

It's not a blessing in disguise unless Memphis or Januzai show up. Losing our Captain and main striker is not a good thing for any club.

I'd try Memphis at 9 honestly. At least he won't be losing the ball in deeper areas.

'Captain' - The guy who is un-droppable in LVG's philosophy no matter how **** they have played for half a season. Rooney is only our main striker because no one else gets a look in, at least with him out the way others can be given a go.

Rooney had a good scoring patch in January but apart from that, considering all the season, he has been poor and in any normal circumstance where players were judged on form he would of been out of the team long before he even had that mini revival in January, don't try to deny it.

Nobody has been given a chance because nobody deserves a chance. We have 3 other strikers.

Martial - Playing great on the wing. We will probably move him up top but then we have to rely on out of form Memphis or Januzaj to fill in at left wing which probably wont have the same impact as Martial.
James Wilson - On loan but also only has 3 goals in 12 games. In the championship.
Will Keane - Only available striker after Rooney and Martial, but scored only 1 goal in 22 games in the championship aswell..

So if you want to give Keane or Wilson a chance, then by all means, go ahead and make us have less of a chance of scoring.

From an impartial view point, Martial, although it's ridiculous the amount that's been asked of him down to the boneheaded situation of going into a season with only two strikers, should of been playing through the middle. And the player you bought to play wide and create out there. Memphis hasn't been great by any means, but being in and out of the side has been no help to him at all. Youngsters have dips. But stick with him.

As zz said, Rooney's been **** poor this term up front. Certainly no worse than wingers that have been in and out of the side.

Utd would of carried far more of an attacking threat in a lot of games had Martial been the 9 through the centre.

Martial has been destroying defenders from a wide position, in a way he might not have done up front. Out wide he is one on one all the time. Out wide or through the middle he's just as dangerous. And both Rooney and Memphis have been so inconsistent the debate is irrelevant tbh

I'm a fan of Martial out-wide but I think he is destined to be a no.9 and he will be most effective there. However Martial will only suit no.9 when we change the way we play, under LVG it makes him virtually ineffective there because he rarely sees or gets supplied the ball for that matter.

Agree on both counts. Martial needs to be on the ball as much as possible, and that is with him out wide. At least with Mata 10 he will see more ball at CF

There will always be players who are out form, so what do we do, forget about them all and let them rot forever? At least they now will have a chance to get back in to some kind of form.

Regarding Keane and Wilson, I think them statistics are slightly misleading, I mean how many of those appearences were late off the bench. From what I've seen of Keane and Wilson they are better players than them statistics you've pointed out makes them out to be.
