To be honest I've lost any dwindling respect for Van Gaal as a person when I see this bollox about wanting FA Cup or Europa league success over top 4. It's nothing but pure glorification for himself to go out with something and not putting the club first. All our eggs should of been in the top 4 as it was still on, over everything else.

Also how he is so openly crediting himself every time for 'blooding youngsters', he has had no choice and if we hadn't of got these injuries we never would of seen Rashford, Fosu-Mensah in the team, just like how he has treated Pereira.

Given how close it is in the race for top 4 I doubt he truly thinks that, he will just be trying to deflect from the **** result. Its football manager psychology 101 you should know this I thought you played FM?
 
Top 4 is wide open for teams in places 1-8, you'd have to be utterly deluded to think Van Gaal considers himself out of the race.

Yep and moreover, nothing is a given. As if that was not stressed by Arsenal's back-to-back defeats when, by and large, they were expected to win comfortably.

Yup.

And let's not forget that during LVG's two years, his team always shows up in the big games. They usually win, they very rarely lose, and they always show up. Arsenal away last year being the only exception.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on him to pull off another recovery during next month, only to bottle it later when playing relegation candidates.
 
It's useless having these good results against big teams when you then undo it all against the smaller teams.

This is why I think LVG has to go no matter what at the end of this season, even if he manages to scrape us into CL by some miracle there is nothing that makes me want to have him for another season.

What if he wins the Premier League and Europa League?
 
LVG still has no clue, every week is a new line up. why change varela when he is on form ?
why change depay when he his gaining confidence and form. every week is a new midfield partnership, how do players get on a run of form or get used to each other this way? Martial looked very sluggish and needs to be eased back from injury.

It's been two years of LVG and united don't really have an identity. its all very worrying and we seem to be riding our luck game in game out.

Effectively 14 points behind with goal difference in the Premier League so how the **** will that even happen? We're not even close.

But the answer is yes regardless, if by some miracle we win something this year we need to part with LVG at the end of this season. Having another year of this dross football will not move us forward. We need a new identity under a new manager for longer than just one season which LVG only has to offer after this one.
 
Eh, we can mock #philosophy all we want, but it does in fact work vs. teams that actually come to win. Otherwise you wouldn't have stellar big game record while having the worst squad of the lot.

It's "park the bus" squad where United consistently struggle. Unfortunately no matter who manager is, there isn't a foolproof way to tactically outmaneuver a team that just sits deep with 10 people. You just need more quality. Mike would probably say you need more tempo, but these things are interconnected. Barca or Bayern can move the ball around at mesmerizing pace, but that's because even the janitor in Barca is more capable with the ball at his feet than the best player at United.

And I'd be wary of theories that, for example, Pochettino comes, changes the style and you're going to magically start crushing teams. You won't, because what works for Spurs doesn't necceserily work for United. People play Spurs to win, but they play United to draw. Big difference.

But haven't you contradicted yourself here?

I mean so if we roll with this theory that LVG needs better players to break down these teams that park the bus, well he has failed to get the most out of our best players and that is one of the biggest issues in his tenure here, is it not?

Also I'm not sure I can agree with you here on the whole well we don't have the players to play at a quicker tempo to break down these teams. Infact you lost me here as we have proven we can play with good tempo and attack with pace against the better teams like Arsenal, even FC Midgetland at Old Trafford where they were just parking the bus lets be honest.

We can play the way to break down these teams, the fact is we're just not consistent enough to do so.

Also yesterday against West Brom that was one of the clearest examples of LVG's philosophy/system whatever you call it holding us back I've ever seen.

If you're a true United manager and you're down to 10 men in the final 20 minutes 1-0 down, you don't hold on to that result, you try and ****** go for it, we needed points yesterday, yet we showed literally no urgency or any attacking impetus.

LVG's subs were mind boggling and it just shows he doesn't have the right mindset of a United manager. We should be playing to win not playing to not lose by more goals. Who cares if we lost that game 2-0 if we had a go at them with 10 men? Just like West Ham showed and even Liverpool over this weekend. We showed literally nothing other than wanting to lose by 1 goal.

Ohh we need more creativity? Lets just totally neglect our best youth player in Pereira and shove him to the U21's whilst we keep ****** James Weir on the bench. Or even worse, Fellaini marching straight back on the bench after an injury.
 
Pochettino and Ranieri are getting the most out of their players, that's just something LVG is not doing, despite having more funds and better players at his disposal for the most part.

I'm actually surprised no one has linked us with Ranieri, unless I've missed it. My only slight concern would be his age and whether he plans to have much more in the game. If he wins title with Leicester would be perfect time to bow out.

I was just having the same discussion on Ranieri with someone. (On bowing out.).

IF he wins his first title with Leicester, he'd be as well calling it quits. Or maybe the Italian job when Conte goes if they'd want him? All things being equal, the chances are Leicester will be back to mid table- lower half the table next year. And there's no European challenge for him there realistically. So he's only going backwards from the miraculous highs of winning Leicester the league if that happens.

Think I'd be bowing out on the one season super season.
